So Cal Dream 2007 Staff Announcement

| |

So Cal Dream Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the addition of a Program Coordinator. SoCal Dream’s drill designer, Ryan H. Turner, has been with the organization for three years, and will now assume the dual role of Program Coordinator/Drill Designer. Ryan’s involvement in southern California pageantry arts has spanned over 25 years as a performer, instructor, designer, administrator, and adjudicator. Best known in the drum corps activity as the drum major for the Velvet Knights in 1986 and 1987, he has designed shows for over 150 bands, winter guards, indoor drum lines and drum and bugle corps, including Impulse and Pacific Crest. In recent years, he has begun to branch out into the world of adjudication, and has adjudicated marching band tournaments in California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Missouri and Nebraska, and currently serves as a Visual Performance Judge for one of the nation’s largest music education associations, the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). In addition to his instructional and designing talents, Ryan’s love for the activity has allowed him to gain the unique title of “The Voice of Southern California”, serving as an announcer for SCSBOA, Drum Corps International-Pacific, Winter Guard International, and the Winter Guard Association of Southern California. In addition to working with SoCal Dream this season, Ryan will also be assisting with the management team of Impulse, as well as serving as drill designer for Capital Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in Madison, Wisconsin.

Resuming his role as Brass Caption Head, and adding Staff Coordinator, Thom Willett adds to his staff two Technicians. Capitalizing on SoCal Dream’s Class A Brass Caption award, several resumes were considered to fill in as High and Low Brass Technicians. SoCal Dream welcomes back Jesus Soliz as Low Brass Technician, and welcomes Tyler Allen, new to the organization, as High Brass Technician. Jesus has been with the organization since 2003 in various roles. We look forward to the warm, large sound that Soos develops on a consistent basis! Mr. Allen, working with the High Brass, brings experience from several DCI and DCA Drum and Bugle Corps. He will be looking to develop and build upon the hornlines’ already excellent individual abilities.

Returning for a third year are Dave Carico and John Wales as music arrangers. Dave, best known for writing for Velvet Knights, Blue Devils, Blue Knights, and SoCal Dream, is excited to once again share his talents with us. John Wales, in addition to writing for SoCal Dream, has written and orchestrated for numerous TV shows and commercials, movies, and musicals. We’re looking forward to an exciting and musically compelling program, which will include several portions of original works, showcasing the duo’s composition skills.

SoCal Dream’s percussion section continues to excel under the direction of Caption Head Chris Rodriguez. Chris, in addition to leading the battery and front ensemble, will also be arranging the percussion book. Chris will have assistance from Johnny Ortiz, Leif Davidson, and Zack Hubbard. Johnny brings his talents to SoCal Dream from the Velvet Knights, and most recently from La Quinta High School where he is currently teaching. Johnny will be assisting in the instruction of the battery and front ensemble. Leif, who came to SoCal Dream last year with experience teaching Santa Ana Winds, and Schurr High School, will reprising his role instructing the Bassline. Zack Hubbard has been involved with Drum Corps greats like West Coast Sound, Santa Clara Vanguard, and most recently, and currently, San Francisco Renegades. Zack will be lending his talents to the Tenor Line. All of our percussion staff spend their ‘spare’ time teaching and writing for several High School lines.

Visually, expect nothing but the best from SoCal Dream. We’re excited to have Mike Nash again lead the corps to excellence on the marching field, along with Eric Lozaga. As mentioned prior, Ryan H. Turner will pen the drill. Look for some amazing storytelling! When time allows, Mark (Mac) McEntire will join us in Sunny So Cal for some visual consulting. Mark Brown will continue in his role of Color Guard Caption, along with Darla Ball, Captain.

SoCal Dream will be making the trip to Drum Corps Association (DCA) Championships in Rochester New York. This will be our third appearance at this event. We look forward to meeting up with the other All Age Corps for some fun, friends, and competition!
