Cadet Graduates to Blue Stars’ Rank

Mike Ruegg joined the Blue Star Cadets five years ago with his eyes on the Blue Stars.

It took a switch from trumpet to contrabass for the 16-year-old to make the big corps this summer as a substitute.

“It didn’t look like I’d ever be a Blue Star when the corps became a Division I corps last year,” said Ruegg, on Onalaska, Wis. “I just didn’t think I had the experience to make it.”

He now marches regularly with the Blue Stars.

“I’m just so happy to be a Blue Star, and it’s a great year to be a part of this corps,” he said.
