Drums Thrilling for Thousands

With hearts pounding, drums booming and horns blaring, six drum and bugle corps from around the country put on a show for the thousands in attendance Thursday for the annual Drums on the Ohio competition.

The California-based Blue Devils took home the overall championship on the 30th anniversary of the event, held for the first time at Central High School. The Blue Devils drew some of the loudest cheers from the crowd, which gave the group a standing ovation on its way out.

Each of the corps competing in the event is made up about 80 to 100 members, with ages ranging from about 16 to 21. Members spend their summer competing in similar competitions across the country.
