Magic Of Scout House Winter Guard Saluting ‘Women Who Rock’

Entering its fifth year of competition in 2019, Magic of Scout House winter guard is saluting Women Who Rock in North East Color Guard Circuit (NECGC) contests, beginning with their first appearance on January 26, 2019 in Orchard Park, New York.

Magic’s 2019 production will take audiences on a journey through some of the most iconic music produced by women of rock.

The first words of the contest routine come from the acceptance speech when rock band Heart, headed by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, “For us, music is the real church. It makes us all equal and perfectly human. But we’re not finished rocking, just yet!”

Ann Wilson’s powerhouse vocals and Nancy Wilson’s percussive guitar playing combined hard rock sounds with lush harmonies to create one of the most distinctive sounds of the 1970s. Over a 30-year career, Heart has sold more than 30 million records and received four Grammy nominations.

Since first competing in the winter of 2015, Magic of Scout House has won four consecutive NECGC championships and the inaugural Showmanship Effectiveness Award while sweeping to a second consecutive circuit championship in 2016. The 2019 schedule includes appearances in Orchard Park, Kitchener/Waterloo, Lancaster, Medina and the NECGC championships in Rochester on the last weekend in March.

Magic’s design staff for 2019 includes Danielle Beckingham, Samantha Rasmussen and Jessica Beckingham. Instructional staff includes Bridget Sinden and Joshua Coit. Support staff members include Rob Summers, Linda Larabie, Dana Hughes, Traci Morrow, Lisa Bouffard and Emily Kowalczyk. Directors are Jehn Burkowski and Andrea Grant.

Members of the group are thankful for the loyal support of friends, family and others in the Preston Scout House organization.
