Announcing "DCW On-Line"
Written by Steve Vickers, Publisher - Drum Corps World
Monday, 30 June 2008

When I wrote about the change in frequency for Drum Corps World back in the April issue, I was concerned about the reaction the decision would receive from subscribers and advertisers. Thankfully, the comments I’ve received from everyone is supportive and understanding.

Most drum corps fans can see graphic examples of how the activity has changed and evolved over the years and they see a direct correlation with how life in the United States and the world has also changed and evolved. Our existence continues to become more complicated, expensive and stressful.

Beatrix’ Guard Presents New Uniform
Written by Beatrix website
Friday, 04 July 2008
After several years it was finally time for the Beatrix’ Drum & Bugle Corps Colorguard to change their uniform. Last Saturday was the first performance in the new outfits for audience.

Beatrix’ uniforms are designed to last a number of seasons. In 2004 the well known red guard uniforms were designed, and have been in service for the past four years. With the upcoming USA Tour in sight, this year was a good time to introduce a new uniform. The outfit was designed by staff members and fits perfectly into the theme “The City” and can be adapted in the coming seasons to fit into other themes as well.

Local talent has been invited overseas to perform in a ceremony to honour a key piece of Canadian and world history next year.

The Kawartha Kavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps will be the guest Canadian band at the 65th anniversary of D-Day at the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy next June, the organization stated in a press release issued Thursday.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to teach our members some very important history and to have them take part, with the veterans, in the various services, parades and laying of wreaths in the area," stated project chair John O'Reilly.

In The News: This Year, Nampa Hears Boom Of 'Thunder In Boise'
Written by Chad Dryden, Idaho Statesmen
Friday, 04 July 2008
The name remains the same, but this year's "Thunder in Boise" is - if you want to be picky about geography - inaccurately titled.

With construction ongoing at Bronco Stadium, the annual drum and bugle corps competition hosted by Boise State's Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band needed a temporary home.

Nampa High School, where "Thunder" will boom on Wednesday, July 9, happily opened its doors.

Cavaliers wow crowd with ‘Samurai’ production at Southwind DCI competition

July 1, 2008 -- Richmond, KY . . . Nothing can begin to describe the complexity of the 2008 Cavalier show of “Samurai.” What the staff is asking of these kids is phenomenal . . . and they are answering the challenge. The guard tells the story of the samurai with so much emotion, you feel each and every member is a warrior.

The horn line even gets into the action with their dance and body involvement. At one point they even jump over another member of the horn line in a karate kick-type motion.

The music is so haunting, at times it gives you a chill. Then, when they want, they hit you with that big sound. The percussion is extraordinary this year, not just in their playing, but with the movement while they play.
