Color Guard Nederland (CGN) will start a new class in the 2009 season. The 'Junior Class' gives the younger Color Guard participants a chance to compete with groups of their own age on a higher level. All participants in this class must be 16 years or younger on April 1 of the competitionseason.
At the same time, some changes have been made to the Cadet Class. CGN will raise the maximum age from 14 to 16. CGN hopes to accomodate many band- & corpsrelated organizations. Many of those have 16 as their maximum age. |

After a successful summer season on the road, the YEA!/Cadets Merchandise Trailer made it’s way home to Allentown, PA after a long Summer Drum Corps Tour. Once it arrived and the doors were opened staff members were disappointed to see a little more than the average wear and tear that usually follows the summer tour. Shelving units and retaining walls had come apart inside. This created a little more damage than what was normally expected to the inside of the trailer and now with the Cadets Fall Recruitment and Marching Band season approaching, the organization is looking for a few “handy” volunteers to help with the “Extreme Trailer Makeover”. As we recruit into the fall, we really would like the trailer to be of “Cadet Quality” as thousands of potential members will see this vehicle during the fall Marching Band season.

"That group we had our fingers crossed on...They won it!"
~ Sofia Carr, 8 years old Driving through Nashville, IN, antique capital of the Corn Belt, corps nuts were contemplating cutting edge drum corps, not antiquity. Yet, Phantom Regiment's "Spartacus" sure racked up colossal numbers in the points column to win OUTRIGHT the DCInternational Championships in World Class. I had an urge to watch an old Kirk Douglas movie sipping a Pepsi. The Indiana University stadium had an eerie resemblance to the Roman Coliseum with the unfinished construction to add seating to make the stadium resemble the original Horseshoe at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Arriving early on Wednesday, I checked out the stadium with its brand new lights and dropped my chin chops upon peering down on the spanking brand new yard-lined carpet. You'd think the old turf disappeared into a sinkhole. Who Cooked up this new recycled tire field so rapidly? The stadium is the star of Indiana, built by a crew of fine masons. After Phantom won, I overheard a little girl on a cell phone jabbering faster than a boxer sweating at a speed bag. Sofia Carr, 8, told her cell mate, "That group that we had our fingers crossed on -- Yeah, them -- They won it! Blue Devils won that other thing the other night, and I think Phantom was second." |

As the world watched Olympians fight for and win medals in China this week and last, one of Vicksburg's own was winning a world championship a little closer to home.
Nicholas Manton, 20, and his drum and bugle corps, Phantom Regiment, won Drum Corps International's World Championship at the finals in Bloomington, Ind., during the weekend.
The elite Phantom Regiment drum corps is based in Rockford, Ill., and includes about 130 members in percussion, brass and color guard sections. Members generally range in age from 17 to 21 and, from May to August, their lives are completely given over to practice and performing.
