25 July 2007 Wednesday, 10:21pm Pittsburgh, KS
In the past week we have endured cricket infestations, scalding hot showers, and fourteenth place. But really, that's looking at everything from a very negative point of view. Last Wednesday night (July 18), we had the Lafayette, LA show. It would've been a great show if my cold and asthma hadn't mixed together. At the end of the closer, there was phelgm lodged in the back of my throat. I was wheezing walking out of the gate. The next day we had a shortened rehearsal day. It threatened to rain all day, although it held off until we began our full run. We stopped at the end of the opener to vacate the field in the rain. We had a very delicious Cajun cookout for dinner- rice, pork, and sausage. We departed to do laundry elsewhere in Louisiana.

14 July 2007 Atlanta, GA Saturday, 10:03am Regional Day!
Sunday last, we had a laundry day in Allentown- we all got to go to the same huge laundromat, and were done quickly. Our Warrenton, VA housing site was horrible. On Monday night, we pulled into a school where the girls had to sleep in the cafeteria. There were live cockroaches crawling on the ground, feeding on random food left around. Most of the girls, including myself, slept on the tables instead of the floors. I woke up sometime in the early morning, to see one of the guard girls destroying a cockroach. On top of that, we were woken up by construction workers talking very loudly in Spanish an hour before wakeup.

4 July 2007 Wednesday, 5:15pm Chicago, IL I can't believe it has been almost another week. Last Friday I found another location to add to my 'favorite shows' list: Normal, IL. The kids there treated us like it was a regional, or finals week. I'd never preformed there before. On Saturday, we drove all the way to Minnesota. We pulled in during the daylight, and fit in about 3 hours of rehearsal before the show. Despite being so far north, I've never felt that dehydrated during tour yet. I felt shaky during horn arc, and had a bad headache during ensemble. I was not in a good mood heading into the show. |

24 June 2007 Sunday, Noon Russelville, AL Laundry Day I haven't had time or motivation to write recently, as we've had three show days in a row. On Thursday, we were in Benson, NC, for CrownBEAT. Although I did not have a good show, especially as the brass quintet had timing issues in the ballad; somehow we got off from the rest of the hornline. The quintet faces front while the rest of the hornline faces back, so perhaps there was some phasing between drum majors. The score sporadically jumped up seven points. I'm paying less attention to the scores this year- they seem erratic. I stupidly forgot my inhaler and was unable to play the whole closer. We played the finale with Crown afterwards. |
