An Invitation to "Inside the Arc" Print
Written by John Donovan, DCP Publisher
Wednesday, 20 September 2006

I'd like to invite you to visit "Inside the Arc" - a new feature column, written by Frank Dorritie. The column will feature essays on the marching music activity by a person who has been a performer, instructor, and arranger - from the '60s to the present. Frank's unique perspective for Inside the Arc will be historical, educational, and ultimately ..... personal. He'll explore the state of the activity, offer a look back at its growth and the people involved, and paint his essays with anecdotes from his long and storied history in the activity. I'm looking forward to this journey, with Frank as our guide .... and I'm confident that you'll find this insightful new column entertaining and thought-provoking.

Brass Advantage with Wayne Downey - Issue 6 Print
Written by Wayne Downey
Wednesday, 20 September 2006

Welcome back to the "Land of All Things Brass." This installment of Brass Advantage will focus on the rarely discussed topic of "Slurring on the Trombone".

What most other wind instrumentalists refer to as "slurring" from one note to the next, trombonists call legato. Written by Fred Windish, DCA Public Relations Director

Ah, Rochester . . . competing against our friends in this, DCA’s most important weekend, yet joining together to do battle with Mother Nature! As you have been reading in the Forums, this year’s DCA Championship Weekend was, shall we say, challenging?

Looking back, the only real trouble spot was Saturday’s visit by almost Hurricane Ernesto. Even Ernie wanted to be at DCA this year. He made a once every fifty year visit! Local residents said “ we never get this stuff, it always turns East before upstate.”

This scribe could crank out some scribblings about my wild time at the DCAssociates Championships in Rochester, NY, but fan$ and performers would rather see photos of themselves. Soooooo, here we go, a collection from the Cozy PhoneCam. In the next column, I’ll release an exclusive photo of a mass orgy in a closet at the Doubletree Hotel, involving the Atlanta CorpsVets and the Renegades.

Enjoy these smiling faces:

Cozy's Corpsdom - Drum Corps is in my Jeans Print

"Remember that nobody will ever get ahead of you as long as he is kicking you in the seat of the pants." ~ Walter Winchell (1897 - 1972), newspaper columnist of "On Broadway"

Yesterday, I yanked the folded recap from DCAssociates Rockmart, GA, August 5, out of my pocket. The stats had faded, fizzled in importance, but the scribbled quotes by Gulf Coast Sound members, I treasure. A frazzled dot book is ready to go back into the pocket. Pulling out my fattened wallet, I've cleared it of trip receipts and li'l scraps of phone numbers have been added to my cell…Hmm, all drum corps folks, no hot babes wanting to get into my Wranglers. Currently, 'tis a currency thin billfold I possess.
