Cozy Ponders DCA '06 Print

Drum corps is as much about people as it is about music, possibly more so. We all thirst for opinions about our beloved, yet somewhat specialized and secret passion. Our next door neighbor is likely to express an unsolicited take on major league baseball, the Super Bowl, etc., but when was the last time the friend on your block ran over to gush about someone's new horn instructor?

DCA's resident wordsmith, Cozy Baker is back with his take on our upcoming all-age season . . . and I thought I was enthusiastic about the coming months!

Here's a heads up, Cozy returns from Loud Music Symposium today. Think he was into it?

**SITE OFFLINE**

DCP will be offline intermittently overnight (May 3-4) to give us time to complete some maintenance duties that are leftover from the server move.  We plan to perform these tasks during our least-busy hours - between 3am and 7am EDST (midnight to 4am PDST).  If you encounter the site down during those hours, please check back later.

Thank you for your patience and support.

Member's Journal - April Fool's Camp Print
Written by Michelle

This past weekend (March 31-April 2) Spirit had our second drill camp. It was my craziest drum corps camp yet. I flew out of Florida in the afternoon on Friday and arrived in Atlanta for a connecting flight to Birmingham. When I arrived in Birmingham around 5 pm I patiently stood next to the baggage claim awaiting my luggage. About 45 minutes passed and my bags were nowhere to been seen. I had brought my sleeping bag and rehearsal bag as my carry-ons. I went into the baggage service center to report my lost baggage. These items included my corps horn, my running shoes, and all my clothes for the weekend. The airline said the items would be in later that night. I had to call the travel coordinator to explain my dilemma. I could stand back and laugh at the situation, but at the same time I was annoyed I didn’t have many necessities for rehearsal that night.

(and other Spring concerts). What a day in PA! The “Forum show,” as it’s also known, was back for another year. If ever there’s a vote for best indoor drum corps concert, cast mine for Serenade in Brass!

Presented at the downtown state capital complex for over three decades, this popular Five Star Brass production never fails to satisfy. The bill included The United States Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, plus alumni corps representing some of DCA’s biggest names, the Buccaneers, Caballeros, Skyliners, Westshoremen, and Erie Thunderbirds. Add in Park City Pride, Mighty St. Joe’s Alumni, and Hip Pickles who were recently voted Best Percussion Ensemble by Drum! Magazine. Top it all off with a performance of the 2006 Hawthorne Caballeros and you’ve created an evening that’s tough to beat!
