City of Bloomington officials are expecting an economic boost from the influx of people The Drum Corps International World Championships will bring to the city. The event will take place Aug. 7 to 9 at Memorial Stadium, and 35,000 to 40,000 people are expected to be in Bloomington over the three days, said Danny Lopez, communications director for the city of Bloomington.
“Anytime you have 35 to 40,000 people there’s a pretty significant economic impact,” Lopez said. “Every single hotel is booked for that weekend, so you can tell just at a glance that it’s significant.”

In 16 days, the Cadets will wrap up their 2008 summer tour at DCI Finals in Bloomington, Ind. and they need help getting there and back.
Although the Cadets tour is winding down, the fuel prices are still winding up. Each stop for fuel costs the Corps several thousand dollars, and it’s a long trip to Indiana. Please donate to the 2008 Fuel Campaign today!

The 2008 Pittsburg State University Brass Spectacular lived up to its name Wednesday.
“This is the biggest show we’ve ever had,” said Doug Whitten, PSU director of athletic bands. “We have seven corps, and usually we have five or six.”
Each corps is made up of musicians between the ages of 14 and 22 from the United States, Canada and around the world. They perform precision marching and formations while playing both original compositions and well-known selections.

YEA alumna Tiffany Duncan is urging everyone to donate blood instead of sending flowers or gifts while she is in the hospital battling leukemia.
"If anyone is near the Philadelphia area, you can donate blood (A+), plasma or platelets by talking to the Red Cross and giving them my name (Tiffany Ann Duncan, Abington Hospital Room 2W45)," she said via e-mail.
Duncan is pretty well known among YEA circles. She was a Bluecoats guard from '92-'93, a Crossmen guard in 1994, a YEA staff member from 2004-2006, and she currently marches with the Bushwackers DCA corps. The type of leukemia she has is called acute myelogenous leukemia, or AML M-3. She was admitted to the hospital July 16 for treatments.

Chalk up another change of plans to fuel prices.
Darrell Cox was excited at the prospect of seeing his two children on Tuesday. They've been traveling with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps since Memorial Day, and the group was scheduled to make a stop at Lawrence High School for an all-day practice session.
But, because of high gasoline prices, the team will stay another day in Broken Arrow, Okla., where they competed Monday night.
