In The News: Battle On The Border VII Back In Van Buren Print

They call it the major league of marching band. It's coming to Van Buren. It's the Battle on the Border marching competition.

Each participating drum and bugle corps has musicians from around the country. The groups prepare all summer long for numerous competitions throughout the summer.

Each corps will perform a show. Judges rate each performance. A winner is determined at the end of the night.

In The News: Drum Corps To Compete Monday At Bowie Print

Though sporadic, El Paso has hosted several Drum Corps International shows here. The last contest here was several years ago.

But on Monday night at Bowie High School the corps will be back, as five groups will be in town to practice and then compete.

Drum Corps International groups are the major leagues of marching musical groups, and most of what you've seen on the field at halftimes and marching contests for the past three decades are band versions of corps-style shows. The competing groups are divided into two classes, with World class being the most advanced, and Open class for younger groups. These corps have had a huge impact on marching band activity, so getting to see them up close and in person is always a treat.
