With the 2008 Drum Corps International World Championships Open Class Quarterfinals being held in Michigan City, Aug. 4 and 5, sponsors are needed to help present the local events, said event chairman Mike Pease.
Michigan City is hosting the opening ceremonies Monday, Aug. 4, at the Ames Field Fountain, and the Open Class Quarterfinals Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Ames Field.
The event will bring 25 corps from around the world to compete here, Pease said. The top 17 corps advance to Indiana University's Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind., later in the week.

We're all feeling pain at the pump every time we fill up. But, one traveling musical group based in La Crosse is being forced to stay home, because of high gas prices.
For 40 years, young musicians from the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps have marched to the sound of their own drum.
"A lot of people know what drum and bugle corps is, but if you don't know, it's very similar to a marching band without the flute, clarinet, and the saxophone," says corps director Eric Sabach.

Usually in this space, technology is shown to be fun or useful. You know -- video games, DVDs, Internet. But not everyone is playing a happy tune these days: The march of technology is causing dissension in the ranks of competitive drum and bugle corps.
When the elite music-and-marching units bring their field shows to several Minnesota and regional competitions starting Sunday, it might be the last time fans see the brass and percussion of their favorite corps playing without -- drum roll, please -- electronic instruments as accompaniment.
