In The News: Braintree Prepares For Independence Day Celebration Print

For the first time in 18 years, the town’s Independence Day parade next month will feature 10 drum and bugle corps, youth groups, politicians and civic, fraternal, veterans and service organizations.

“I want a parade to add to the town’s 35th annual Independence Day celebration this year, and it appears that we’re well on our way due to the hard work of a parade committee working with the Braintree Friends of the 4th Committee,” Mayor Joseph Sullivan said.

Former drum corps veterans John Robinson and John Grandy are the parade’s co-chairmen.

Willett Resigns From SoCal Dream Print

Regrettably, Thom Willett has resigned all positions from SoCal Dream.

Mr. Willett first joined SoCal Dream in the 2006 season as brass tech, and later as Brass Caption. He took on many roles at the only Southern California All Age Corps, including Staff and Program Coordinator, and was the All Age Corps representative for DCI-Pacific. Under his tutelage, SoCal Dream achieved consecutive 3rd place finishes at DCA Championships, and took the Class A High Brass award in 2006. position.

2008 Kilties April Camp Report Print

Spring has arrived on the calendar, but its arrival in Racine is nothing more than a rumor. That is part of the unique charm of spring drum corps in this part of the county. Outdoor Spring rehearsals can be downright bone chilling, and our April camp was just that, with 40-mile-per-hour winds accompanying temperatures that never made it out of the 40s. Some would have you think that rehearsing in such conditions builds character, but I believe that effectively rehearsing in such conditions takes an intense collective resolve and character to begin with. I’m happy to report that despite the less than optimal conditions, the Kilties were able to put the first 2 Movements of “Renaissance” on the field.

It's time! You can now enter the Individuals, ensemble and mini-corps competition for the 2008 DCA Championships on line. Just go to the DCA Home Page at http://www.dcacorps.org and click on the championship logo. Then, click on the I&E link. Once there you can download all the necessary information. Remember, your early application will mean a prime appearance slot. World Drum Corps Hall of Fame inductee Steve Cooley, of Dunkirk, New York has been instructing and arranging for horn lines in New York, Pennsylvania and Ontario since 1970. An earlier news release contained errors in the years he was associated with several corps and omitted information about his judging experience. The correct information follows.
