The Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps were honored in late March by the Berks Arts Council and legendary jazz musician Chuck Mangione during the 16th Annual FirstEnergy Berks Jazz Fest.
The Berks Jazz Fest, coordinated by the Berks Arts Council, is an annual 10-day event featuring dozens of musicians and drawing thousands of fans to the Greater Reading area. For more than a decade the Buccaneers have served Berks Jazz Fest as load-in and load-out crews, drivers and all-around helpers. Chuck Mangione, an avid drum and bugle corps fan, dedicated his March 24 performance to the Buccaneers in tribute to the Buccaneers’ 2005 Drum Corps Associates World Championship and the organization’s long history of service to the Berks Jazz Fest. |

The Atlanta CorpsVets is pleased to announce that Michelle Guest was selected as the recipient of the Lisa Abney Scholarship that is awarded annually by the CorpsVets Drum and Bugle Corps. Out of remembrance of friends lost and appreciation for our community, CorpsVets offers several different scholarships each year to help performers in different venues. CorpsVets has enjoyed friendship with Spirit of JSU since our inception. The Lisa Abney scholarship honors both this inter-corps relationship and the memory of Lisa Abney.
Congratulations to Michelle! |

The financial flourish of the Drum Corps Association World Championship will be a pleasant memory for area restaurants and hotels this Labor Day weekend.
After four consecutive years of dumping what organizers estimated was $5 to $8 million into the region’s economy, the event will move to another city this year. The relocation will cut the Labor Day weekend lines at Northeastern Pennsylvania restaurants and decrease demand for lodging.
"We are going to be very sorry to see them go," said Tim Hughes, manager of Marvelous Muggs Restaurant & Pub in Moosic. "From Thursday through Sunday they came in and were very free with their money. They came to have a good time."

The Kilties have formulated a sponsorship program for winter guard members who earn a spot, and become are a member of The Kilties color guard program for their 2006 70th Anniversary drum corps season.
This is a program that offers financial sponsorships directly to the winter guard of their choice.
The Kiltie sponsorship program will help a member defray winter color guard program costs, and the sponsorship funds are submitted directly to the winter guard of their choice for the upcoming 2006-2007 season from The Kilties on behalf of the member. We do enter into a contract to ensure the sponsorship is directed to a winter guard members account. |
