The first week in July has always been the busiest week of the summer for the Kilties, and this year was no exception. We greeted July with our first appearance in Michigan City, Indiana in nearly 30 years. We followed that up with appearances in the two largest Independence Day parades in Wisconsin, the Kenosha parade on Sunday, and the Racine parade on Tuesday. We capped our busy week with our first ever appearance in the DCI Central Championships at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis , Indiana.

Rochester’s Empire Statesmen took top percussion score, and every other caption as well, in sweeping to first place in the Drums In The Square contest with a total score of 82.325. Syracuse Brigadiers were second, with 75. 388. |

Dave Endicott is polite to a fault -- courtly, even -- but for a moment an uncharacteristic note of sharpness colors his tone, and you realize you have just committed a big faux pas.
Note to self: Never, ever refer to a drum and bugle corps as a "band."

Reading Buccaneers skimmed through the Independence Day weekend with the wind in their sails, taking a second straight win over Rochester’s Empire Statesmen, at the 3rd annual Vince Bruni Preview of Champions on July 1. Bucs scored 80.525. Statesmen were about a point behind, at 79.563. |
