Drum Corps Japan, Japan's sole drum & bugle corps organization, has posted its schedule for the 2008-2009 competitive season.
Opening the season will be its Drum Corps Preview show at Kawasaki Kyujo (www.kawasaki-kyujyo.co.jp) in Kanagawa Prefecture, featuring six drum & bugle corps from around the Kanto (eastern) region in exhibition. On November 2, competition kicks off at the Tokyo Open at Ohta Stadium in Tokyo Prefecture. Finally, on January 11, 2009, the All-Japan Championships, featuring drum & bugle corps form all over Japan as well as other bell-front only marching bands, will once again take place at Ajinomoto Stadium (www.ajinomotostadium.com), home of the F.C. Tokyo and Tokyo Verdy professional soccer clubs. |

Black Knights have been approached to appear in a commercial for Samsung mobile phones.
Members of the Black Knights will spend Thursday of this week filming the commercial at studios in Wimbledon.
Rus Rogers from the Black Knights development team commented, “We received the call and managed to secure the gig after the producer and director of the commercial viewed our online Podcast. We are delighted to be given the opportunity to appear in a commercial that will be seen all over the world and for such a big brand.

Besana Marching band will enter the Open Class of the DCE European Championships on September 27th in Kerkrade - The Netherlands. They will replace the Blue Lions from Mons en Baroeul who had to withdraw.
It is the first time ever that Besana will enter the DCE competition, which means that Drum Corps Europe may welcome two Italian groups this year. They did very well at the '2008 International Championship of Marching Showbands' earlier this year, ending up in 6th place with only 4 points behind Jubal. Besana will perform 'Quidam' from Cirque du Soleil.

On "Yorkshire Day", Thursday 1st August, everyone on tour became honorary Yorkshire Folk as BYBA surfed into Newquay.
The "stage" for today's performances was a sloping lawned area overlooking the iconic bay at Newquay, therefore other than the NSG Guard providing some movement, there was no marching in today's performances. This did not however detract from the entertainment value and enjoyment for the hundreds of holidaymakers and the BYBA "cast", themselves. |

After some free time and rehearsals, BYBA's South Coast Tour was "on the road" and rolled into Teignmouth to perform at the Den, a grassy area on the sea front, adjacent to the River Teign estuary.
At 4pm on Wednesday 30th July, Bob and June Girvan set about marking out an arena, whilst Paul and Christine Cartwright set up the BYBA stall and started to handed out flyers to passing locals and holidaymakers. By 6pm, all three units had arrived, were unloaded and warming up. Meanwhile MC Mark had background music from "The Cadets" playing from the PA system. |
