2008 will see a significant increase in the number of national organisations running DCE Certified shows. With DCN and DCUK now on board as Certified Partners, it means that all of their shows, including their national finals, will be Certified. Other national organisations are also considering making some or all of their shows DCE Certified.
With this major step forward in uniformity it will become possible for the first time to seed this years DCE prelims placings on the basis of the scores corps have achieved at Certified shows throughout the season (including national Finals events). The highest score achieved during the season will be used to determine the order play in the mornings Open Class event. This also applies to A-Class scores, and any A-Class corps will be scheduled to appear at the Prelims before the Open Class corps. New corps without a certified score will perform first.

Drum Corps International increased the depth of the staging area from 3 to 4.5 meters a few years ago. These new sizes will be implemented in the Europan manual starting 2008. Other changes are minor text changes, including the term change 'tape recorders' into 'digital recorder'.

The Concord Ceremonial Fanfare Team has just closed their 2007 season with one of their biggest "gigs" to date. They recently played for the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce Business awards ceremony before 1200 guests from the city's business and commerce community. Held in the massive Ponds Forge leisure facility, the event is an annual celebration of all that is great about Sheffield and district business and attracts a great deal of public attention.
The team was proud to be invited to such a prestigious evening – apart from the money (!) the local publicity gained is priceless and has already led to further enquiries for appearances in and around the city in the future. |
