 Music City Legend, Middle Tennessee’s first and only “all-age” drum and bugle corps, will perform with the Nashville Community Band this Sunday evening, June 15th, in the band shell at Centennial Park. This is the second consecutive year that the corps has been invited to perform with the band in their annual Fathers’ Day performance. The free program begins at 6:00 PM.This will be the drum corps’ first public performance of the year. Founded in the fall of 2003, Music City Legend is preparing for its fifth full season of operation and has grown in size and competitive stature each season. The corps placed 11th at last year’s Drum Corps Associates World Championship in Rochester, New York, achieving its highest score and placement ever. After performing several musical selections with the Nashville Community Band, the corps will perform music from its 2008 field repertoire, entitled They’re Playing Our Song. In addition to the Marvin Hamlisch composition, Music City Legend’s presentation will include Johnny Mercer’s Moon River, Assassin’s Tango, from the hit movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Arturo Sandoval’s A Mis Abuelos, Overture from Dancer in the Dark, Dear Old Shiz from the Broadway musical, Wicked, and Brian Setzer’s Rock This Town, the pop music anthem made famous by The Stray Cats. In addition to the annual concerts in Centennial Park, the corps has appeared in field contests in Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York. This year, Music City Legend will spend Independence Day weekend in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., with a series of eight performances. The corps will also host a combined DCI/DCA contest at Beech High School in Hendersonville on Saturday evening, August 2nd. The corps will kick off its 2008 competitive season on Tuesday evening, July 1st, at a Drum Corps International (DCI) sanctioned contest on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. The season ends Labor Day weekend at the DCA World Championship in Rochester, New York. Members of Music City Legend Drum and Bugle Corps are amateur performers ranging in age from “mid-teen to middle age” and represent the greater Nashville area and middle Tennessee.
