St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights To Host Buglers' Hall Of Fame Print
Written by Debbie Murphy, St. Kevin's Emerald Knights

The St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights Sr. Drum and Bugle Corps has teamed up with The Buglers Hall of Fame to host the 2010 Buglers Hall of Fame, North American Boston Regional Individual Brass and Percussion Competition on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

The Buglers Hall of Fame was created in 2005 to honor those who have achieved excellence in the art of bugle playing.

This event will feature some of the best drum corps, brass and percussion soloists. Drum corps fans across the east coast will flock to the Boston area to participate, compete or simply enjoy listening to these talented musicians. The typical drum corps fan is 14 to 80 years old and will travel hundreds of miles to see such a drum corps event. Many of them have participated, played in or had family in a corps and there are those that support drum corps activities and the performing arts in their communities.

The event is not only entertainment at its best, but also a major fundraiser. The St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights and Buglers Hall of Fame have teamed up with the Boston Firefighters Local 718 (IAFF) to host the first Boston-based Buglers Hall of Fame. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Boston Firefighter Local 718’s Children’s Fund.

Other proceeds will support the goals St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights strive for by continuing to provide our musicians an educational forum and also maintaining its roots as a traditional drum corps. The Knights began their drum corps journey in the mid-1950s with numerous championship accolades, disbanded in 1969 and reunited as an alumni corps in 2000. St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights has been a community-based corps and this event is another example of how the group gives back.

Come and enjoy this “New to Boston” venue while benefiting the Boston Firefighters Union Local 718’s Children’s Fund and support St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights quest to keep drum corps thriving in the Boston area.

The event will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 12 noon to 10 p.m. at Florian Hall, 55 Hallet St. in Dorchester. For tickets, call Richard Paris at 617-288-2100, or Marty Collins, St. Kevin’s Emerald Knights 617-686-2467.
