TennTux Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) You should write a freaking book Tony! Donna would have to do that... with my spellin' (or lack there of) no one would be able to read it. LOL Another reality check just hit home with the passing of Steve Young... We were just with him at the Lancers' "Profiles in Music" (He emceed) and just learned he passed yesterday (If what I've read is accurate) 4/13/13 Edited May 20, 2013 by TennTux Quote
Jaminbenb Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 i may get slammed for this but.......alan smythe was a great showman. he could really put on a show. but as a good director, not so much. corky wouldn't let him direct concerts. and after he left the drumline would never watch him. we would go off the lead snare. just telling some truth here. Oh don't get me wrong, Alan was a great DM, and a wonderful showman! (even if his forte` was baton twirling ) He was just a ruthless teacher..not that Mark didn't NEED that kind of tutelage. Quote
Jeff Ream Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 "Almost A Skyliner": One of the "Legends" surrounding him is that he was almost a Skyliner. After St Lucys folded in late 1969 he was supposed to migrate to Gotham. However, Jim Costello had a word with him and he ended up in bellbottoms (As did a slug of former "Lucymen" that gave the Cab's a terriffic boost and resulted in their first DCA title in 1970)where he stayed until 2004. (With the years off TDY to Hurricanes) I believe he "May" have actually started his drum corps career with the Old Our Lady of Lourdes Cadets. When they and the olde Dumont Police Cadets closed their doors in 1963-64 a BIG slug of their memberships jumped to Fairlawn, resulting in a HUGE (For that era) drum corps. I remember seeing them at the World Open Prelims in Bridgeport that year, and they WERE "Huge". Lots of memories hereabouts.... Elphaba WWW Funny you mention this. One of the last years for the Hershey show, as the heavens opened right after retreat, many of us ended up in a nearby restaurant, Jimmy included. he said the plan was for him to go to Cabs, and Butch to Sky, but Cos decided he wanted Jimmy more, so there he went. he joked that 83 was "well, we just don't talk about it LOL" Quote
NanciD Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) Please Read Before You Post If you *know* who it is.... please wait a while (not everyone is on here all day or even daily for that matter) If there have been no Guesses..........Then give a *challenging* hint. When giving hints on these try to be creative and just dangle the tiniest tidbit. Make people really think / work on it. Then wait it out a while before tossing another tiny vague tidbit... C'mon we've got to make these last a little longer. PLEASE?? Also, any comments made MUST be made in good taste... this is a fun loving thread... not a revenge match. Please spew your venom elsewhere. Please submit any questions and / or pics in their full size (preferably JPG format), with full description - names, Corps, Stadium, Year... etc. to: The *Guess Who* Mailbox Thanx in advance! All that said and out of the way.. One @ a time, please... Left to Right: Guess Who # 485 ? (click on pic to enlarge) One at a time, please...Left to Right: 1. Mark Plotts - Westshoremen 2. NanciD Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) If #3 is who I think it is... he's usually seen behind a bass drum. (At least it looks like him to me and if it's him.. he's been featured here before) Edited May 20, 2013 by NanciD Quote

(At least it looks like him to me and if it's him.. he's been featured here before) I think he played bass here and there - my lasting memory is of him carrying roto-toms which Dennis introduced to the activity in '76. You can hear him featured on "Sabre Dance" - a short percussion feature leading into "Spain" in 1976. We lovingly called #3 (whose initials are AG) "Hammer Hands" on the roto-toms. Not as permanent a nick-name as say "Stan" but it hung on during 1976. 1 Quote

Here's another shot of #3 from the Wet Dream in 79: #3 certainly looks like a gargantuan compared to the little guy ... :-) Edited May 20, 2013 by ajlisko 1 Quote

(AG marched with Sun from 1971-1981) (color pic of Sun's DM from 79, with another resident of GW land...) This blue and white top was the one I wore before AG and another one (blue and white) was made for me with the rainbow for 80 and another orange and white (with the rainbow for the 80 season) for the gentleman also featured.
