TennTux Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 ah..so that's why you became a DM........no i got it. your part of the lawn chair crowd...............LOL. I was a lead Bari (had two solos in 10 seasons.. LOL) WAY back in my Bari days we marched with elbow contact. I don't ever remember marching next to anyone that I didn't have to raise my elbows over my head to make contact with the person next to me. (Guido understands... ) I jokingly tell everyone that when Donna and I joined Sun in the winter of 74 for the1975 season they took my horn away and gave me a podium... (I tell everyone it was Gene Bennett Jr, Drill writer/instructor, that said to me "It's not your horn playing, we've seen you march" LOL) I was telling that "story" to a fellow SunAlum (at the WDCHOF luncheon a couple of years back) with Gene Bennett Jr standing beside me and he said to me "Did I really tell you that?"... LOL No he didn't but That's my story and I'm sticking to it!. hehe) Quote
TennTux Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Is that where Ponzo learned his lawn chair gig? Sunrisers? Naw... THAT was definitely after his days marching with Sun. (WAY back in those days even the "heavy hitters" in the Corps marched. ) Quote
TennTux Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 well, when Arientano's involved He marched too.... everyone did. (well, except for the DM crew. LOL) Quote

NanciD Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Please Read Before You Post If you *know* who it is.... please wait a while (not everyone is on here all day or even daily for that matter) If there have been no Guesses..........Then give a *challenging* hint. When giving hints on these try to be creative and just dangle the tiniest tidbit. Make people really think / work on it. Then wait it out a while before tossing another tiny vague tidbit... C'mon we've got to make these last a little longer. PLEASE?? Also, any comments made MUST be made in good taste... this is a fun loving thread... not a revenge match. Please spew your venom elsewhere. Please submit any questions and / or pics in their full size (preferably JPG format), with full description - names, Corps, Stadium, Year... etc. to: The *Guess Who* Mailbox Thanx in advance! All that said and out of the way.. One @ a time, please... Left to Right: Guess Who # 485 ? (click on pic to enlarge) One at a time, please...Left to Right: 1. Mark Plotts - Westshoremen 2. Jimmy Russo - Caballeros 3. Andy Gargano - Sunrisers 4. John Macri - Sunrisers 5. ?? ?? Quote

JimF-LowBari Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) Hard to believe he's gone ... what year did he take over as DM for the Bucs? Interesting question and the years are kind of a blur. Thought he was lead DMing in 78 but his corps was having a rough year and that's throwing me off. Question I have is did he do field DM and took over later or go straight to head DM. Just can't rememebr him in the field. I usually buy the Sunday NY Daily News. Few days after he died the Daily News had a pic of the scoreboard at the game where his band was performing. Scoreboard had his pic and condolences for his school. Just a shock to see that pic in a NYC sports section. And the pic with caption almost took up have the page so you could read the scoreboard message. Edited May 24, 2013 by JimF-LowBari Quote

JimF-LowBari Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 His band was from UMASS Amherst ... he passed away in Ohio while on a trip with the band to play halftime at a game in Michigan ... interesting that a NY paper would carry his obit ... Same place as my first competition... still cringe when I hear "Amhearst". Wasn't an obit, it was a pic of the (huge) Michigan scoreboard saying (IIRC) the band was dedicating its' halftime show to..... even had a pic of his face. Interesting of all the sports pics NYDN could have run on that page it was that one. Might still have it somewhere but not sure. Certainly gave me a cold chill seeing the pic and I knew what had happened. Quote
