Drum corps stadium profiles

Recommended Posts

The Berry Center, Cypress, (Houston) TX. Gotta love high school football in TX!

The absolute greatest, most awesome, spectacular, spine-tingling best sound I've heard in any stadium anywhere. Even when the corps on the field is playing softly, one is enveloped by a glorious sonic blanket of sonorous brass. It doesn't even matter than one can see drums warming up behind the stadium...once the corps inside the stadium is playing, it's like having headphones on.

Everyone within a few hours drive deserves to hear drum corps in this venue.

The only stadium I've watched DCI live in, being praised enormously by the legendary Michael Boo?! Just another reason to go for 50-yard-line tickets there next summer!

If you find this "legendary" Michael Boo, would you please ask him to stop using my name?

But, yes; you'll experience nirvana in the best seats in that stadium. The other seats probably offer just pure joy spasms and not the hyper variety.

Very good to great:

Warhawk Stadium (Whitewater)

Ames Field (Michigan City) - all seats in between the 15s

North Central College (Naperville)

Mile High (Denver)

TCF (Minneapolis)

J. Birney Crum (Allentown) not deluxe, but a great vibe

Avoid:

Boylan Catholic (Rockford) - a total pit. Broken-down, uncomfortable, and charmless.

Camp Randall (Madison) also a pit - but with more seats. Great location isn't enough to make up for terrible facility.

High School Stadiums in Ohio aren't too shabby either

No, they certainly aren't. I'll be posting a couple in a future update.

Luckily, I only live about 40 minutes away!

And yet you've never invited me over. (sigh)

Mike, if you're in Houston next year, you've got a date!

It will even get better once they're able to have a show there that isn't rained out.

It's not the greatest stadium to play in, but it holds a special place in my heart as the first stadium I performed in. The Show of Shows is awesome.
