I've got that one beat in terms of assignment on ship from old corps guys.

Jeff Graf: SCV sop 83-84 (marched with him at San Diego State). Flew A-6 Intruders in Iraq....currently a Navy Captain and Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier, USS John C, Stennis.

Haven't even seen him since 84, but I found a picture of him on the Stennis' website...definitely him (minis the 80's porn-stache)

Probably not what you had in mind, but an interesting story none the less

In the early 90's Cadets did a few Holsinger shows, and Holsinger even traveled with them for a little while, mingled with fans by the souvie booth, etc. I was a young, dumb DCI fan at the time, very familiar with Cadets early 80's - 91 history (i.e. I knew all about Bernstein, Copland, Les Mis, Adams, etc). I was looking around their booth, asked a nice, older looking gentleman what Cadets were doing that season, and he said the show name. I asked who the composer of the original music was, and he replied David Holsinger. I said something like, "huh: never heard of 'em." I then bought a shirt and went to watch the show.

I found out later that I of course completely blew of David Holsigner. I will concede again that I was pretty young (I might've actually been shorter than Holsinger at the time  ), but I constantly laugh at my stupidity in that moment! I've talked to the maestro several times over the years, and this winter at Midwest convention I finally told him that story. We both laughed about it, especially when I said that Cadets were my introduction to his awesome music and he's since made a TON of money off of me, possibly thanks to Cadets
