The Evolution of Drum Harnesses

Recommended Posts

My start in drum corps was autumn of 68. We rehearsed for our first winter guard contest of the season held in November. We entered the gym floor to silence, then there was the sound of the captain’s commands, the beat of the boots, the click-click-click of the rifle strap, the whoosh of the flag’s wave and the clang of the post … about 2 years later we had a drummer … he, our snare, our drummer boy, set the beat while we, an all girl guard, followed his groove. It was then that I, a guard member, respected the drummer and we, the guard, marched to his cadence … um … to stay on topic, here are 2 of AAG in 73, tympani blocks and harnesses.

AAG ‘A’ 1975 with Louise on triples (multi-toms) … the new boots added stability for the drum line … in 77 Louise was on bass, 78 and 79 snare drummer and instructor, competitive winter guard flag in 80, then taught winter guard and became a very fine guard judge mid-80’s … the beat goes on …

14 snares in 74 with funny hats haha and slings under the uniforms :) 10 bass plus triples and cymbals to drown out that loud 100 person horn line; don't forget about the huge guard :D
