Cleanest yes, most demanding, not by a long shot. I think come the end of the season, Regiment will settle in about mid-pack. My prediction is about 6th right now, if that. They're incredibly clean for June, which usually doesn't bode well for August.

I thought Phantom had a very enjoyable show at Akron, them and the Cadets were probably the cleanest of the night! :D

Agree with your observations. The show lacks musicality right now, seems very rigid. Almost too clean. They also need to build more impact into the show. It feels almost as if they are trying to play it safe rather than go out on a limb. Not taking away from the fact that its a crowd fav, I just want it to feel more lyrical. Lots of time to work on that...

Just saw the show in the theater. A few thoughts...

- This will likely be my favorite show of the year. Wonderful show.

- The drill is perfect. But also lacking sufficient difficulty that the show will likely peak visually. I'm cool with that.

- I'm not surprised that the music scores were 5th of 6. It doesn't have the musical impacts that recent PR shows have (but which have also always developed over the season). Also, the show is comprised of several short segments, though I'm sure transitions will improve.

- Perhaps I'm the only one, but I think the beheading is a little cheesy. I'm sure it'll develop, and I hope it does.

Do you REALLY think the show we have seen at Akron and Albuquerque is the complete project?

How long have you followed drum corps?

Yes, some corps do put out the entire 'finished' program setup right away and then try to clean and embellish it while touring, while other corps start out 'simple' and 'clean' and then add a level of difficulty - then repeat and add until August 11th.

I'd find the tour season boring if I had to just perfect the same sound, steps, and sequences over and over until the end of the season.

CHALLENGE ME! I'm sure Phantom's staff is doing just that!

Mark my words, the show you saw last night will NOT be the show you see in August.........

Quite honestly I think Phantom is doing precisely what they need and want to this year. The show is stunning on the field, the guard may very well be the best guard yet (talk about demand and exposure compared to everyone else! WOW!) Despite what some people THINK, it is harder marching at slower tempos CLEANLY. Any foot phasing is clearly seen..and they seem to be doing this VERY well. The percussion section seems to be playing better this year, the horn line is doing very well, the visual is well done. They have a great overall package and to write them off now seems well, weird considering how strong they seem to be in everything. Now compare that to Crown who seems to have a mountain to climb..has a mountain to climb..and that show is no where NEAR as complicated as Cadets was last year at this time. You don't get credit for TRYING to be clean FYI.

FWIW, BD WON 2010 with about the most simple visual program ever...so never say never.

OK, I will mark you words! LOL

Seriously, this isn't my first rodeo (I'm a dinosaur, hear me RAWR!) so I would be quite shocked if this was the same show in August. If that were the case, I think Rick would need to do some serious house cleaning.

In MY opinion, I think they have designed a very "safe" show this year, and I think this is a GOOD thing. After the turnover they've had on staff in recent years, the best play is to put a solid show on the field without having to add the pressure of trying to win. It will be competitive to a point, give the kids a great experience, reach a few more fans and be a crowd favorite. The corps is going through a major transition with staff departures, which means having to create a new identity musically. Its going to take knowledgeable audiences a while to get used to that.

Overall it's a good show with a lot of GE, however I don't think this show has the design potential to win a championship (nor does it need to), but if they do win, it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. If they do, good on them!

It's June, less then a week into the season. They will be fine.

there is a video somewhere floating around that has a close up of their feet during nessun dorma. Lot's of meter change/tempo change that is going to be HARD to clean, but once they do the judges are going to eat it up. It's a lot like the 'rubato' section in ave maria in 06.

Sounds like a winning formula to me !

It sounds to me like you're saying they aren't even trying to win this year.
