kaseyW
I was thinking about this the other day. I'm sure a lot of us try to show people who do not know of DCI (or know very little about it) drum corps shows of the past that we consider to be relate-able to the common audience. You know, the shows that reek (in a good kind of a smell) of entertainment, and the shows that dazzle. These shows hardly have a single design flaw. ALSO, these are the shows that have won. That made me realize that the shows that you would most likely show/grab a new audience, are also the same shows that have worked well with DCI judges and audiences. A few of these examples: 2011 Cadets - Between Angels and Demons 2008 Phantom Regiment - Spartacus 2006 Cavaliers - Machine 2004 Cavaliers - 007 2000 Cadets - We Are the Future 1992 Cadets - To Tame The Perilous Skies 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard - Phantom of the Opera 1984 Cadets - West Side Story What are some shows that YOU would show to a new audience? DrumManTx
These for sure. I wouldn't think of showing anything that doesn't have a pretty obvious theme or familiar music, just because if it's a non music person, they don't care about technicality (to an extent) or musical details. They want to be entertained. This is a list I'd show to music people who don't know about drum corps as well. They're easy to get and just flat out entertaining. Vanguard 89 - Phantom of the Opera Blue Devils 94 - My Spanish Heart Madison 95 - A Drum Corps Fans Dream Madison 99 - Jesus Christ Superstar Vanguard 04 - Scheherazade Phantom 05 - Rhapsody (the people I've shown this to have fallen head over heals for it) Bluecoats 07 - Criminal Phantom 08 - Spartacus Carolina Crown 11 - Rach Star Cadets 11 - Between Angels and Demons Edited July 13, 2012 by DrumManTx
JamMan
2011 Carolina Crown - Rach Star No. People already know what marching band is. The point is to have a show that is something you'd never see at halftime.
