Is it just me or are these gigantic logos in the center of the field encredibly distracting? I am aware, for example, when I drop a bunch of cash to catch DCI Championship week in Indy that Lucas Stadium is home to the Indianapolis Colts but trying to block out or overlook that huge helmet, dead center, is a lesson in futility.

Now I'm not suggesting we perform our unique art form on a totally blank canvas (after all, it's awful handy to have those hash marks to manage today's complex and intricate drill designs) but I think we deserve better. Is it inconceivable to find a way to conceal this eyesore? Possibly with a mild, washable, paint or a removable powder to match the field color....SOMETHING!

That, I'm guessing here... don't know for sure... is up to the team that is the principal tenant of the facility.

Seriously? Logos on the field? You mean the thing that's been on 90% of the fields in the past two decades? Who's going to pay to cover them up? And how? Paint or powder would come off after the first corps.

Btw, didn't Oregon cover up part of the field two years ago, during their blue show?

If you look back at 2011, the Colts logo was covered up. I don't remember why it was then, or why it wasn't this past year, but I am sure there is a reason.

But there are logos in many past years videos, and it is an obvious way to show where these shows took place. Nothing much DCI can do about it if the stadium has an opening game the week after finals or something...

We have had Colts exhibition games the day after Finals in the past, which is one reason the logo is there. (I don't remember which year(s) that was.) I usually leave the press box about 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning after Finals, where the DCI.org crew is wrapping things up and getting content on the site. It's really weird to look out onto a field where a Zamboni-like machine is scrubbing off our hashmarks, and even weirder when the lights go off. It all seems so anti-climactic.

I believe the Colts had a Sunday preseason game the Sunday of finals this past year. Must have not been enough turn around time to paint the field after finals night.

I have no problems with the logo whatsoever; because contrary to your objection, the turf is actually the Indianapolis Colts Football Field in which DCI is leasing and not the DCI Marching Performance Field which the Indianapolis Colts happen to use on occasion.

I actually agree with you. This is one of the reasons I liked performing in the Citrus Bowl..because there was no distracting logo on the field.

I know that some stadiums have their logo's sewn into the turf, meaning it can't be removed. Most high schools and colleges with field turf go with this type of marking. But with some NFL stadiums, Lucas Oil Stadium included, it is at least possible. The field crew at the Georgia Dome is the best in the business. EVERY SINGLE TIME that I have been to an event at the dome that was not a Falcons game, there are no Falcons markings on the field whatsoever. They are really good at quickly removing whatever needs to be gone for an event that may be the next day. In fact for the past few years, there's always been a Falcons home game within a day or two of the Chick-fil-A Bowl and every year the field for the two events look completely different.
