RIP to a legend, the principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for over 50 years (1948-2001), Adolph Sylvester "Bud" Herseth, who passed today at the age of 91.

Bud Herseth was the principal trumpet of the finest orchestra in the country, and now a drum corps kid sits in his chair. The man influenced every serious brass player in the USA, even if they don't realize it.

For a good notion of how he played, I recommend the CD "The Chicago Principal".

He was truly an inspiration, every recording of the CSO from his era absolutely blows me away. We've lost a fantastic player, pedagogue and person today. I wish I could've had the opportunity to meet him and have a lesson with him, it would have been an incredible experience. RIP Bud, you will be missed by the entire music community.
