perc2100 Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Crusaders continue to develop leadership from within, the mark of a great organization. Congrats to Tom Spataro on an incredible job! For sure! Not only is is the mark of a great organization that is able to groom future leaders, but that alumni are not only capable of leading but have the passion to continue to serve their corps 3 Quote
BRASSO Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 That is a great move! I agree. The future of Drum Corps rests with the younger generation. The Boston Crusaders have been efficiently run of late, and their new hire, and its broadened ventures announced, appears to have positioned this Corps well for the future. 6 Quote

Tim K Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 This should be an excellent move for the Boston Crusaders, or perhaps I should say Inspire Arts and Music! For a number of years now BAC has sought the advice and leadership of those who have been a part of the corps from the glory years and their more challenging years of the past to those associated with the corps today while also bringing in people from outside who can help the corps achieve its goals. Bringing Thompson Vou on board seems to be an excellent choice. I enjoyed watching him as DM. He had passion while directing BAC yet he was never the show and at home shows it was apparent he had the respect not only of the corps but also the directors and fans. 1 Quote
normy diploome Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I for one am sad to hear of Tom Spataro's shift from the Crusaders' administration even though I understand that having so many young children in his household means his fatherly duties and joys certainly come first! I just want to go on the record publicly thanking him for the what he has done for the corps and the activity, always as a gentleman whose sense of common decency and the good of others marked his efforts. I believe Thompson is going to do very well with his new responsibilities. But I do think that the activity has lost two great young men of character and decency as first Brian Hickman, and now Tom Spataro move on to other roles. We who love drum corps owe Tom alot, not only for the class way he has inspired the Crusaders on and off the field but also for being a voice of reason and common good in the whole G-7/8 matter. Tom, thank you and God bless your future. 4 Quote

Tom, thank you and God bless your future. I agree...and would like to add the following: Not only has Tom been "the voice of reason" among his DCI peers of the last 6 years (garnering the "Director of the Year" award in 2011), we should not forget the crucial year of 2008, his first as Corps Director. After a management change, BAC was looking at less than two dozen vets returning and many in our activity were predicting (yet again) the certain demise of the Boston Crusaders. Not only did that NOT occur, Tom and an amazing staff were able to put together a very audience friendly show ("Neocosmos"), and help the corps muscle its way into 10th at finals, with what was essentially a high school-aged membership. Only one year later, the corps vaulted over the Blue Stars and Phantom Regiment into 7th with an even more popular show ("The Core of Temptation"). As we know, the corps has been consistent in its strength ever since, and whatever its placement this summer, Tom's impact will be huge. The corps and for that matter the entire drum corps community owe this man a debt of gratitude, imo. Thanks Tom! 8 Quote
