Hello everyone! Im really excited to of found this site! Hah.

I was wondering if it is likely for a high school student or someone staright out of high school to get accepted into one of the top 12 corps?

I am currently going into school as a senior. I have been in guard for 6 years (12 seasons) and am currently the captain. I have not spun anywhere outside of school.

Do people, like me, generally get into corps? I plan on auditioning for the 2014 year.

Hah, thanks!!!!

I'm no guard or drum corps expert, but I think it is possible. I graduated recently and a lot of the high schools in the area I live would occasionally have a guard member or two that were in BD and/or Vanguard (I think my memory could be wrong though). It really just depends on how solid of a guard member you are, It sounds like you have a decent amount of experience.

Good Luck

If you are determined to march, and are flexible to accept other than your first choice, then yes, people like you generally get into corps.

Firstly, welcome. Secondly, you'll need a pretty think skin around here (folks are very quick to criticize)!

A question: can you perform work like a top 12 guard member (silk, dance, and weapons)? As one instructor once said to a parent "Well, pretty much every snare that tries out for us is center snare at their school or college." Work smart and you should get to go where you want.

Try winter guard first maybe and see where you are... Good luck

Not a guard person, but I marched BD 2 years while in high school. Yes, you can do it it.

Other option, go to one of the top twelve corps, and audition for their B corps, do that for a year, learn the routine and meet the staff, and then try out for the A corps the next year.
