Final results are found here.

Listed above are what I believe to be all the quiet endings performed by DCI World Class Finalists, plus the three soft closers that I know of in World Class competition this year (at least two of which are almost certain to be Finalists). I have defined "soft" somewhat liberally, including some cases where "medium" might be the better term. "Ending" likewise is broadly considered: some of these ends are fairly short tags following a very loud moment. Because there were 36 such closers, but the poll settings only allow for 25 choices per question, I have split them into two groups (alternating, in chronological order). Please pick one corps for the first question and one for the second question, and then in the third question, indicate which of your two choices you like most.

If there is another soft ending you like more than any of these, you can indicate that as well in the third question--and then please note as a response here what you're thinking of! Perhaps from an Open Class performance? Or a DCA performance? Or a DCI World Class Finalist that I overlooked? (One that I deliberately omitted was Suncoast Sound's 1988 show, "Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child", which appears to be a soft ending until there are three quick loud notes at the very end. But if you want to consider it a soft ending, that's fine. Another that might qualify is Blue Devils' 1994 show, "My Spanish Heart", despite the big drum hits.) Or a non-Finalist? (From the past ten years, those include at least Mandarins '05 with "Loves Me ... Loves Me Not ...", Troopers '10 with "Wanted", Colts '11 with "Deception: The Jagged Edge", Troopers '11 with "The Road Home", and Academy '12 with "Left of Spring".)

One reason I thought to post this poll was that several people had mentioned, in response to this year's Cadets show, that they don't like soft endings at all. If you feel that way, please feel free to speak up here! On the other hand, if you find a quiet closer particularly moving, by all means give voice to what makes it so effective for you.

Phantom 2010 hands down. The soft ending made yoj feel as though you had taken a journey during the show, ending with you moving beyond "into the light". Pure beauty

I like how INT usually comes to a soft and rather abrupt ending. It tends to be quiet at the end of INT. They do a soft and quiet ending to their close about as well as anyone, imo.

Cadets 2013! The combination of the cool drill and high-speed movement, the amazing sound and melody from the brass line, the underlying beats from the percussion section. One of the most amazing moments this drum corps season. Kudos to the design team from the Cadets!

Problem is with so many people talking in the stands, few people can really appreciate it

INT gets people up and out of their seats as well as anyone however. In large regional shows, DCI makes INT go out there twice.... very unfair, imo

Sad that I was the only one to vote for BD 1997. This show started and ended with stunning visual by the corps proper and this difficult choice of love to be made by the young lady stuck between two loves. She makes her choice as the music from the start of the show reprises. Stunning! Will always be my favorite soft ending!
