I easily prefer 88 Blue Devils to all of these. The only contender is 87 Cadets.

So I abstain.

How about Blue Devils 1994?

How about it? Would that be your choice?

(I did write, "Another that might qualify is Blue Devils' 1994 show, 'My Spanish Heart', despite the big drum hits", in the original post. I think of that as a medium rather than a soft ending, but anyone who wants to vote for it can do so!)

I picked SCV 90 because that was an awesome way to end in the tunnel.

I would have picked BD 97, but she didn't pick Bogey, so screw her

Garfield's 1987 soft ending was, to me, the best of the first bunch.

SCV in 2009 was the best of the 2nd bunch (with SCV 1989 as a close 2nd in that group).

The Blue Devils 1988 ending is amazing but not what I would call a soft ending, down ending, or anything like that. The corps left the field to an uptempo swing and the full brass play a shout-chorus like setting of Streisand's "Happy Days Are Here Again" for a brief moment, then the trumpet solos begin and they are playing very powerful lines not typically found in a down or soft ending.

When BD did this I think I referred to it as an "Encore" ending. This is what the Blue Knights are doing this year as well. They are doing a short Encore of previous material at a rather fast tempo while exiting stage right.

It's really a different kind of ending all together.

Delasalle had a beautiful soft chromatic short descending run and fade in Flamingo before they replaced it with Light My Fire which was also a great exit but different than this topic's question. I think it was 1969.

You mean, "I vote for '88 Blue Devils". Not an abstention at all. Thanks!

Is it my aging eyes, or is Blue Devils 1994 missing from both lists?

Your eyes do not deceive you! However, they apparently didn't read the first post, which says...

If there is another soft ending you like more than any of these, you can indicate that as well in the third question--and then please note as a response here what you're thinking of! Perhaps from an Open Class performance? Or a DCA performance? Or a DCI World Class Finalist that I overlooked? (One that I deliberately omitted was Suncoast Sound's 1988 show, "Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child", which appears to be a soft ending until there are three quick loud notes at the very end. But if you want to consider it a soft ending, that's fine. Another that might qualify is Blue Devils' 1994 show, "My Spanish Heart", despite the big drum hits.) Or a non-Finalist? (From the past ten years, those include at least Mandarins '05 with "Loves Me ... Loves Me Not ...", Troopers '10 with "Wanted", Colts '11 with "Deception: The Jagged Edge", Troopers '11 with "The Road Home", and Academy '12 with "Left of Spring".)

So if BD '94 is your choice, that's fine!

I would have preferred if you had characterized it as out with a "whisper" rather than a whimper.

None of those corps whimper...
