Genesis Director
In an exciting turn of events, Genesis DBC announces a new production plan for 2014. Our new production, titled "Art of Darkness", will explore the descent from the light of Reality to the dark images of Madness. "The creative team and I felt that this years group had a maturity about them that was ready for a production of this caliber. For now we will hold off on the original concept for future use and we are all very excited about this new direction."Art of Darkness will feature a revisitation of the corps 2012 source material composed by Two Steps From Hell and will also include Lux Aeterna (from Requiem for a Dream) and Mad World (from Donnie Darko) you can follow all the 2014 news on our Facebook www.genesisdbc.org
N.E. Brigand
Thanks for the update. I do wonder: is "Mad World"--presuming you mean the same Tears for Fears song that the Cavaliers played a few years ago--really best described as "from" the movie Donnie Darko? The song dates to 1982. The film dates to 2001. (It's like saying "Twisted Nerve" is from Kill Bill, even though that piece of music predates that movie by 35 years.) They're using the cover version form Donnie Darko. Hence the phrasing. The acoustic cover is more well known than the Tears for Fears one amongst the current generation
3rd&10
It's awfully late to be change programs... In an exciting turn of events, Genesis DBC announces a new production plan for 2014. N.E. Brigand
They're using the cover version form Donnie Darko. Hence the phrasing. The acoustic cover is more well known than the Tears for Fears one amongst the current generation Sure, but will they really be using the cover version more than the original? For instance, will Genesis not use their synths for that song, thus staying more idiomatically true--to use one DCI judge's term of approbation--to the acoustic cover? Or how about the fact that the original has percussion, while the cover does not (apart from piano)--in that regard, will Genesis's version be closer to Tears for Fears or Gary Jules? (And I'm curious to know if the latter will get any money from the sale of DCI audio and video, or if it all goes to the original songwriter, Roland Orzabal?) Edited April 18, 2014 by N.E. MikeN
(It's like saying "Twisted Nerve" is from Kill Bill, even though that piece of music predates that movie by 35 years.) But we did say that all season in '05. Sometimes pop culture appropriates other pop culture... :) Mike (Though I did hear someone once say that Kashmir wasn't as good as the original Puff Daddy "Come With Me" version from the Godzilla movie. Seriously.)
N.E. Brigand
But we did say that all season in '05. Sometimes pop culture appropriates other pop culture... :) Which is why I picked that particular example. (Even though I wasn't here in 2005.) Most people don't realize that "Twisted Nerve" is actually from a movie called Twisted Nerve.

Makes sense as a ballad, while the Tears for Fears version doesn't. Cavies used it to good effect in 2010.
