Galen
Kicking off the last full week of the regular season, we're getting underway and heading out of the south. Denton TX's CH Collins Stadium will host the last Texas event of the season. With most of the top-scoring scores from the Fort Worth show elsewhere, this will be an excellent chance for corps like Avengers, Bluecoat Brigade and Ohio Valley Thunder to move up in the standings. Further north, Wichita KS's Cessna Stadium hosts a reunion of some of the top corps from Fort Worth. The steep stands will have corps like Ivory Brigade, The Patriots and Tri-State Troubadors craning their necks to reach the top. In Open Class/Class A competition, a pair of private colleges will host today's event in northwest Indiana. Fort Wayne's St. Francis University will be hosting Open Class competition, while Angola's Trine University will open its gates to Class A corps today. In Class A, Lake Erie Storm look to continue their quiet climb up the standings, while Kaiju Corps looks to regain some ground after taking Saturday's event off. For Open Class, look to see if Dunder Mifflin Paper Carriers can regain some momentum after a low finish in Saturday's sweepstakes event, which broke their streak of scoring points in those events. Galen
We had some surprising standouts last night, and the standings have gone through a bit of a shakeup as a result. Violet Knights came out of nowhere last night to shock a lot of corps in Denton last night. Will the long drive to Kansas City take it out of them, or will they be able to keep up this new success at Shawnee Mission North HS in Overland Park KS? Avengers' recent climb continues, as they stole the show (and a win) in Denton last night. Now they have another chance to notch a win in their belt when they take on Star of Jupiter, Renegade Brigade and Scarlet Armada at Mustang HS in Oklahoma City OK. The cream rose to the top at last night's Open Class/Class A show in northeastern IN, as many of the powerhouse corps found themselves at the top of the standings. Now, corps like Phantom Vanguard Cadets and The Wranglers are looking to get back into the race at Dixon HS in Dixon IL, while corps like Red Regiment and Green Band hope to begin staking their claim to a finalist spot at Sterling HS in nearby Sterling IL. Galen
The standings are moving and shaking up so much you'd think there was an eqarthquake happening- but that was just Avengers rocketing back up to the top of the charts with a win in Oklahoma City last night. Whatever their director's been feeding those kids, it's definitely been working as they've been on a tear the last few days and are assembling wins faster than we can count! World class corps competing at Valley Stadium in Des Moines IA will be trampling through the cornfields as July approaches its end, and corps like Idaho Regiment and Black Beat NZ are looking to overcome their late starts and build their confidence and experience. The state of Michigan will be giving Open Class and Class A corps a collective "hand" tonight as they march into Plainwell. Buckeye Brass B survived a scare from a resurgent Marauders corps last night, but need to keep looking over their shoulders as corps like Blue Ridge Brigade and Abracadabra Academy are still lurking behind them. We'll see if those corps can gain any ground at Plainwell HS tonight. On the Class A side of things, it was Xothyme that climbed back to the top of the pile last night. While they had a comfortable margin of victory over Buckeye Brass C, the amount of shifting around we've been seeing is leading me to believe that that division is still anybody's for the taking. Things may look clearer after tonight's event at Grand Haven HS in Grand Haven MI- or they just may get even more mixed up!
hostrauser
Forward Dynamics corps broke out of their season-long doldrums yesterday with 2nd, 2nd, and 1st place finishes in Kansas City, MO and Dixon, IL last night. Come on, you knew we weren't going to give up the fight THAT easily.
Cadevilina Crown
Just a word of warning, guys... expect a stronger showing from both Harmonic and Harmonic Cadets starting tomorrow!
Galen
Happy last day of July! As always, it seems like we get to this point of the season much sooner than anticipated- corps will start relishing the handful of performance opportunities they have left while continuing to refine their shows. World Class corps will be rockin' in the Rockies today as they compete at Boulder HS in Boulder CO. This will be the last chance for corps like Stud Bolts, The Patriots and Texas Trailblazers to gain some ground before the Denver show. Eyes will be on Avengers and Quiksilver as both corps have been red hot coming into this event. There's been a venue change for the Forest City IA event, as the original venue pictured below was just too small to accomodate the huge number of corps that have registered, even doing a split-venue format. I kinda feel sorry for the DCI corps that will be performing there later on: So, the Open Class portion of this event has been moved a ways off to the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls IA, while the Class A portion will still be nearby at the original home of The Music Man, Mason City HS in Mason City IA. Personally, I'll be looking to see if Spirit of Indy and Hoosier Regiment can make some noise, as both of those corps have been a little quiet lately. StarOrg
Happy last day of July! As always, it seems like we get to this point of the season much sooner than anticipated- corps will start relishing the handful of performance opportunities they have left while continuing to refine their shows. No rest for us. Jupiter will get Friday night off but Hawaii and Cross will perform every night this week through next Monday. Star of Hawaii hit on all gears last night in Plainwell. First win in awhile.
Galen
What would you say if I told you that there were just 9 days left in this season? Man, does time fly when you're running a fantasy league! World class corps kick off the month of August at one of our long-standing venues in Boylan Central HS in Rockford IL. Normally an early or mid-season event, this year's show takes place very late in the season and marks a crucial event on the calendar, with 21 corps on the calendar making this feel like a finals-level event. Out west, Avengers had their win streak halted in Boulder by Star of Jupiter. They'll have one last show at South HS in Cheyenne to get back on track, but Nastalgia Vanguard will also be looking to take advantage of Avengers' stumble to move up themselves. Meanwhile, newcomers Idaho Regiment enjoy the closest thing to a home show they'll experience this season. The Milwaukee area will be drowning in beer and Open Class/Class A corps today. Waukesha WI's Carroll College Stadium will host the Open Class corps today while Greendale HS will be home for the Class A corps seeking to get one last performance in before Saturday's sweepstakes event in Platteville. Galen
WIth just 7 days left in the season, corps are getting ready for the mad dash to the finish line with the final regular season focus shows on tap for today. Out west, the lineup may be small, but the stakes are large as Star of Jupiter, Avengers, Ivory Brigade and Quiksilver go head to head at Sports Authority Field in Denver CO. Back in the midwest, the bulk of the World Class corps march in to Madtown for a duel at Camp Randall Stadium, where corps like Eruption, The Knights, Scarlet Armada and Violet Knights, who surprised everybody with a win in Rockford last night, will try to seize as many sweepstakes points as they can. On the Open Class side, Tokyo Tornadoes are in the midst of a rarity in DCPI competition these days- a winning streak, as they pulled off their 3rd straight win in Waukesha last night and look to be peaking at just the right time. They'll be looking to solidify their claim as a top championship contender tonight at Pioneer Stadium in Platteville WI, but they'll have to hold off a stampede as the full contingent of Open Class corps is out in force and looking to knock them off the top. Class A corps will be competing nearby in Dubuque IA tonight, as Dubuque University's stadium has been pulled into last-minute duty for this event tonight. Xothyme are proving that late is better than never as they achieved victory in Greendale yesterday, but will have their work cut out for them again as all of the Class A corps are squaring off in today's event. Hg and Cross are right behind them, and Lowell Lancers and Hoosier Regiment are waiting in the wings should any of these corps falter today. Jhawk
Some fun info Kaiju Corps just finished their new ending today but it won't be in place tonight so that we can clean it a bit more. So look for Kaiju to be shooting back up the Class A charts soon.
