Northern Thunder
50 years ago today was the deadliest accident involving a drum corps bus. The story made newspapers across the country, including this June 29, 1964 account in the Lodi News Sentinel, published three days after the accident. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2245&dat=19640629&id=X7gzAAAAIBAJ&sjid=uzIHAAAAIBAJ&pg=7045,6768080

Northern Thunder
The Chinese Imperial Dragons were on the field through the 1977 season (they competed at DCI Class 'A' prelims in Boulder in '77). They were known as the largest junior corps on the field in 1970, 1971 and 1972, with upwards of 150 members. As I said, this was the deadliest accident involving a corps bus. There have been several deadlier drum corps-related crashes, but those involved cars, and not buses.
chasgroh
...was in Sacramento with the newly-formed Velvet Knights...of course, we knew alot of kids in that corps and the news was stunning for all competitors in town for the competition. Put a damper on a great weekend.
