Splooie99 Posted June 30, 2014 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Well, I watched OC's preview show in Hillsboro last Saturday. The show entitled "Nevermore" is very interesting. I beleive the content is of greater demand then last years show and is better designed as well. I really enjoyed their preview. I only wish it was 3 weeks ago like most of the rest of the corps. NW school schedule along with the age of the members requires OC to start in June. Not May like most of the corps. I was very interested in seeing how they come out in their 2nd year of WC. I beleive many fans will like this show and enjoy the corps. Can they make the top 12??? I do not think so just because of the amount of time left to catch up cleaning the visual program. Designwise, I think it is just about good enough to get them there, but execution may be the limiting factor. The corps is full and the staff is challenging the members to acheive on a much higher level then last year. All in all, I think they have a good shot at the top 15. Musically, I beleive they can get there, time will tell if they can visually. OC will be in Denver which I think is the first time most people will see them on Fan Network. Until then, us lucky NW folks will enjoy their show until they leave to go East. I would not miss them if you get a chance to see them live. Cleveland1 Posted June 30, 2014 Share Posted June 30, 2014 Well at the moment Spirit would be in the top 12 with 70 points, although comparing those scores to others is tough to do. But its the bar right now until the first true regional with all the corps. I feel spirit's current score is a bit high, or crossmen's is a bit low. either way, i think it'll be crossmen, spirit, troopers battling for 12th. The OC could shock us and occupy that gap between those 12-14 corps and the current bottom 5 (soon to be 7 when cascades and surf come in) Colts and Academy have thus far been disappointing in terms of scores. Pacific Crest and Mandarins are not quite there yet, it seems. And pioneer is pioneer. so it goes. Because the Crossmen will be traveling up to the NW with SCV and BK, it will be a great opportunity to see if OC is near crossmen. By then Crossmen should be above 70. OC needs to be in that ballpark. And we can't forget that Medford Oregon is exhibition only, no judges. unless things have changed. DrumManTx Posted June 30, 2014 Share Posted June 30, 2014 I know it may not be popular opinion, at all, in here, but strings in the marching setting is something I LOVE. There's a high school band in New Mexico I've seen twice live that used a Violin soloist one year, and a cello soloist the next year, and it was absolutely gorgeous, I thought it added a whole new sound and texture to the typical marching arts sound that was refreshing, cool, and very enhancing. They were used in one section as a soloist, and that's it, in both cases all the way through the impact points at that given moment in the show, and I thought it was an amazing addition.
