DCA 50 years ago today (well almost)

Recommended Posts

In keeping with DCA's year long tribute to their 50th Anniversary, here's what went on this weekend in 1964:

Saturday July 11, 1964 Baltimore MD 11th Annual March of Champions

Position --- Corps ---- Score

1 New York Skyliners 85.530

2 Connecticut Hurricanes 84.580

3 Reading Buccaneers 83.150

4 Syracuse Brigadiers 82.050

5 Interstatesmen 80.530

6 Archer-Epler Musketeers 80.050

Loved Shangri La from the 64 rep ... very memorable performance by Archie at the 64 WO in Bridgeport ... and their Beatles concert with Billy Kaufman as Ringo (complete with wig) on the trap set was a hoot! ...and Suky was just plain NUTS! ... thanks for the memories!

No offense Charlie, but you should probably start a separate thread about Minn's score ... not sure how many will comment about it here in a "50 years ago" thread ...

I think you have to notice that the host Corp (Yankee Rebels)did not compete at their home show. I am sure they probably did an Exhibition. I wonder when the hosts also became competitors ?

Unless it takes a wicked super-long time to post the scores... like 5 decades.

Could happen...

from what Dad has told me, back then at home shows the host usually didn't get scores for the public to see

Right, not sure if it was a DCA rule or just not done. Judged exhibiton was allowed but not competing against the other corps.

Now if you "sold" your show to say.... the Lions Club then the corps got credit for having a DCA show (had to have a show to be a DCA member) and could compete. Well least that's what Westshore did in the 80s/90s.
