Florida Sun
I think Sunrisers stopped going to the states after 68 ,they still won even with the 2 point penatly for the bells .And then went on to win the Legion Nationals in New Orleans that year . cabalumnidrummer
the bells were in 69. and they didn't have them in 68. Don's right. Under Jerry Shellmar, Sun used horizontal basses in '68, but the bells didn't come in until 1969 as well as marching tymps, I believe. Was it Cliff Diable who first played the marching bells for them?
Florida Sun
your right on with Cliff Diable ,ShellMar wanted the bells for his drum solo Ballet of the giraffes Sun got a 2 point penatly for using them in Legion sponsered shows ,Legion never aproved them . rayfallon
I think Sunrisers stopped going to the states after 68 ,they still won even with the 2 point penatly for the bells .And then went on to win the Legion Nationals in New Orleans that year . Which was the year at States that Sun had 2 horn players removed by contest officials, ironically for under-age (Legion rules). 1966 sticks in my mind, but I was 15 so it's not crystal clear. Iron Lips would know, if he reads this. Thought it might have been Freddy and someone else. but there have been a lot of years since then so maybe I'm wrong.
