Fan Reactions to Bluecoats "Pitch Bend" Ending 2014

Recommended Posts

Loving me some Bloo this year though for some reason, I feel like, at least in the recordings, the synthesized part has gone down in volume? Or is it just the placement of the mics that capture the sound?

I haven't seen the show live, but I think you're right. I don't remember which FN recording it was, but the amped content of all corps was softer while the pit seemed on the loud side. I believe you can see two mics on one stand right on the 50 in front of the pit, which would explain it.

OK cool. Too bad I can never see this live in person :-(, it would have been so awesome to see. Hopefully the finals recordings will record it so that the transition between hornline and synth will be seamless.

I think both Innovations in Brass (Akron) and the latest one (San Antonio) were mixed correctly.

I thought it would be cool if we had a thread of all the video reactions to the "pitch bend" at the end of the Bluecoats 2014 show. I'm assuming that these would be legal videos to take, since it is not of the corps? ;)

Anywhoo, here are a few already out there. I will try to take one when I'm in Massillon on the 4th. Please add yours :)

The second link doesn't work.

The more times I hear the pitch bend, the less impact it makes for me....becomes more of a sound effect that can easily muddy the 'real' live brass. It was spine-tingling on first hearing.

Not any more! It's cranked and that awesome horn line is louder than ever!

Goosebumps man, I gotta have more goosebumps!!!

It's a cool effect but it's not changing my world nor does it require an entire thread. IMO, Crown's echo effect done with brass is a bit more worthy of a thread.

Oh hush,

But don't act all like the corps is doing the pitch bend "live". It's sort of like lip synching.

Have you been living under a rock? Yes, it's pre-recorded by the corps and then synth'd out. anyways...

Considering the hype, it deserves a thread.

I think it deserves a thread. It's one of the best uses of electronics many of us have seen. I, for one, am very excited about their innovation and the crowd reactions to it. The crowd reaction reminds me a little of Regiment’s 2008 implementation of the drum major kill. Obviously completely different avenues to achieve a great reaction. I only hope they add something more at the end of the show to keep people on their feet!
