DCP NewsFeed
It was a Friday night rehearsal in 1984 when I first met the legendary Gene Bennett. The corps was only entering its 3rd season but the level of talent had blossomed that winter and spring and we felt we were on the cusp of something special that upcoming season. bushdm1986
Very well put Jay. Gene Bennett made such an impact on so many drum corps people. He will be missed. A wonderful man. I always liked running into him at show's and just talking drum corps. I will miss that. Condolences to his family and friends. God Bless and Rest in Peace.
ironlips
Jay has really captured the essence of this extraordinary man. I remember the incident he relates as if it were last Saturday. Gene and I were laughing about the fact that we had known each other for 40 years and were still "doing drum corps" together. "And these Bush guys are for real", he said. From the George Washington Carver Gay Blades to the Sunrisers to the Bushwackers to the Cabs and on and on...Gene knew from "real". He was real, and I am so fortunate that he called me his friend. And for the record, Gene Bennett treated everybody like a "best friend". Edited July 24, 2014 by ironlips

It was a Friday night in Harrison at the Tri Chem lot, our beloved rehearsal site. Gene climbed the buildings roof with Al Dicroce and all of a sudden a huge booming " CORPS-TEN HUT!!,"came from the darkness from atop the building. it was then we realized this guy ain't screwing around. We were in good hands from that moment on.Jay
