DCI-86
We all know that corps teach their members to focus on themselves and not worry about the competition, but we also know that everyone wants to do well and beat xyz corps. So at what point in the season do corps accept their fate? Do you think Cadets has accepted they will place 2nd and now just focus on being the best they can be? Do you think Crown realises they won't retain their championship title? Sometimes corps who try too hard, throw everything but the kitchen sink into their shows to boost GE - and it doesn't work. Gloryah
My guess is that point would that one second after they've completed their final performance of the season.
cowtown
Fate is not as static as some would presume when it’s still in the future as it’s sort of a different tense of faith

2muchcoffeeman
What? No. Inside a corps, placements matter far less than they do to us on the outside.
va9590jm
The best philosophy for a corps to have is to not worry about the scores, just worry about making their own personal show the best they can. If they focus on performing it to the max, and strive to get every last bit of crowd reaction and enjoyment they can, then just let the numbers take care of themselves. The members cannot control the numbers of other corps, only their own through their performance. Focus on cleaning your own house, and let the chips fall where they may. The best corps that I was a part of had that mentality for the eitirety of the season, and while we might not have been perfectly happy with where we were competitively until semifinals night when we made finals, we just pushed the entire season, threw down, and let the numbers take care of themselves. Even when we didn't have a great late season push, but were still happy with the product we had and the crowd reactions we were getting, that mindset did wonders for the experience, even though placement wasn't something that we wanted. Some of the worst corps that I was a part of had a number of members who were constantly freaking out about scores and how we weren't doing as well as we'd like to have been doing, and started blaming each other (percussion blaming brass, brass blaming percussion, staff vs staff, etc), and caused the corps to crumble and fall a place or two at the end of the season. Ultimately it comes down to how the corps members and staff approaches the mental aspect of it. Its different for every corps.
cowtown
What? No. Inside a corps, placements matter far less than they do to us on the outside. People love to say that on this board but that was not the case when I marched. Scores mattered Recall one time, after a show, a mighty ball-out from the staff with sheets in their hand, in front of everyone in the parking lot…we knew all the spreads by the end of that one
Popular Post chaddyt
I would ask the 2008 Phantom Regiment at what point they accepted their fate.
Super Don-O
Beating corps XYZ is nice, but the goal is always to do the best job YOU can and reach your own maximum potential. If you beat that rival corps all the better, but it's about the performance and the personal journey. Also, the winner is not crowned until Saturday night. There's no such thing as a guaranteed lock. The '88 or '08 Blue Devils would probably have a few choice words to say about that.
mboogey73
I would ask the 2008 Phantom Regiment at what point they accepted their fate. Yeah, but that was the exception, not the rule. We may never again see a late surge like that.
