The rest of the team looks the same. Very encouraging. I loved the advances in the Drill design last year and its good they are holding on to the designer. http://www.crossmen.org/newsMarkworth " Markworth to serve as Music Ensemble Arranger for 2015 The Crossmen organization made the announcement this week that Andrew Markworth will serve as the Music Ensemble Arranger for the corps in 2015. This follows several successful seasons as both the Crossmen Front Ensemble Arranger (2008, 2011 – 2013) and the Percussion Ensemble Arranger (2014). In 2014, Markworth also arranged both the Brass and Percussion parts to Zambra, the corps’ third production. In addition to his work at Crossmen, Markworth was the Front Ensemble Arranger and Coordinator at Carolina Crown from 2007 – 2014. “We saw an exciting opportunity for Andrew to arrange all components of the musical program at Crossmen,” said Ed Devlin, Program Coordinator. “Rarely in this activity is there one person that can bring the entire package to the table – we are very excited to have his talents being demonstrated in this capacity, as it most certainly brings a level of cohesiveness to the entire program.” Joining Markworth is virtually all of the Crossmen design team from 2014, led by Program Coordinator Ed Devlin. “What particularly attracted us about utilizing Andrew in this role is his ability to be a real team player across all captions,” said Fred Morrison, Executive Director. “He is a well respected arranger and designer in the marching arts activity, and most certainly within the corps. We look forward to Andrew bringing the corps to a new level of performance in 2015 and beyond.” Andrew Markworth is an active composer and arranger in the marching arts activity. He currently resides in Centerville, OH where he is the Program Coordinator, Music Arranger, and Percussion Supervisor for Centerville High School. Previously, he was the Director of Percussion at West Bloomfield High School in West Bloomfield, MI (2009 – 2012), and the Director of Bands at Centerville High School in Centerville, OH (2005 – 2008). In addition to his previous roles at Crossmen, Andrew was the Front Ensemble Arranger and Coordinator at Carolina Crown from 2007 - 2014. He is currently the Music Director and Front Ensemble Arranger for Rhythm X, a position he has held since 2006. ma24le Posted November 7, 2014 Share Posted November 7, 2014 I believe this was done by Troopers a few years back, where they had one guy, David Reeves, do the entire "book" (brass and percussion). It didnt turn out well for Troop (nothing against David Reeves. I kind of thought some of the arrangements were good. tesmusic Posted November 8, 2014 Share Posted November 8, 2014 I don't think most would doubt Andrew Markworth's talent, I mean, besides being Wayne's son, he's also established himself as a competent writer and teacher, but I am fearful when one person is doing it all. Now if Jaime Alvarez-Calderon were doing the batterie and Markworth was doing the brass/mallets, or some other combination, I think I would feel different. It's risky, and I hope they're making the right decision. I just think it's better to share some of the creativity. That said, I hope the Crossmen have a great 2015! xandandl Posted November 15, 2014 Share Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) A re-read of the Crossmen's brass staff awes me with the depth and experience being brought to their faculty. DCP's own Bill H(awkes) returns to the Crossmen staff; a former Cadet who went on to teach the Crossmen and Jersey Surf of season's past amongst others Frank Williams, a DCI HoFer, who numbers rings with Cadets, then on Glassmen's staff, et al. in addition to his Florida honors and achievements. Dennis Laorenza who also won a few rings with Cadets, taught the Open Class corps out of Tampa, and usually helped out wherever Frank Williams taught. Al Chez, enough said. Chad Pence whose time with Cadets, Boston Crusaders, and Carolina Crown are all memorable and successful. Evan Berry, a ring winner with Cadets out of River Hill's pipeline. Jarrett Lippman. former Crossmen assistant director from Rutgers who went on for the last few seasons cleaning Cadets' baritone line and is now bringing Claudia Johnson band to new heights. He'll also be helping the new Texas corps while giving Cadets some input on that Texas tour I hope. Even if all these gentlemen are present but for a few camps and along-tour practices, the line will well benefit from the Williams-Laorenza-Chez-Hawkes upper brass expertise and Berry handling the mellos while Pence and Lippman ring great tones out of the low brass.
