KeithHall
Was just thinking about all the corps in Canada that we used to have and all the shows we attended/competed in. Our corps spent manyof our time in Canada. We were right at the border in NY so rather than compete in NY (that could be another story LOL) we competed in Canada....Scarborough, Kitchener, Mississauga, York, etc. We socialized with many corps....Cardinals of Precious Blood, Seneca princemen/Optimists, Opti Lancers, Midlanders, Flying Dutchmen, Oakland Crusaders, Ventures, St Johns Girls, etc. Today they have one corps in Ontario and I don't think any competitions up there. I believe there was almost a show every Saturday in Ontario. We also went into Pennsylvania and Ohio, but Canada was our second home. I miss all those corps! I think the best show was in Kitchener-Waterloo (Golden Triangle Invitational) which had C, B, A , Open and Senior corps and the competition was all day. Just a fun atmosphere and a chance to chat with members from other corps. Hey Canada...We miss you!!!!! Ontario Krescendos Canadian Knights Guelph Royalaires (Sr.) Firefighters/Princemen Dutchboy Dutchboy Cadets Precious Blood Cardinals Ambassadors St. Johns Girls Ventures Durham Girls Toronto/Seneca Optimists LaSalle Cadets DeLasalle Oaklands Etobicoke/Oakland Crusaders Les Compagnon Opti Knights Opti Lancers Flying Dutchmen Midlanders Northstar Golden Lions Bandettes Rebels and the list could go on.... Northern Thunder
Ontario annually produced more than 30 junior corps in the early years of the DCI era (1972-1982). And it still has a number of junior corps (besides Blue Saints).....they just don't compete. Still active in 2014 are: RCSCC Admiral Mountbatten RCSCC Admiral Nelles RCSCC Brilliant RCSCC Courageous RCSCC Haida RCSCC Illustrious RCSCC Niagara RCSCC Repulse RCSCC Royal Sovereign RCSCC Warspite RCSCC 180 Mosquito Squadron Windsor Diplomats Thanks mainly to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, the drum & bugle activity still exists in Ontario.
KeithHall
Used to love the parades in Canada after DCI....Labor Day parade in St. Catherine's and then all the Santa Claus parades in Ontario that paid pretty well too. Many Ontario corps were represented. Oh how can I forget the Octoberfest parade in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, that was REALLY fun times!!! Caviecub
I remember seeing the Bandettes in the late 80's. They were small, and some of the members looked like they weren't even in middle school. But they played their absolute hearts out! My family loved them!!! Northern Thunder
I remember seeing the Bandettes in the late 80's. They were small, and some of the members looked like they weren't even in middle school. But they played their absolute hearts out! My family loved them!!! The Bandettes came out with a co-ed corps, renamed Steeltown Brass. They were active as a parade and exhibition corps in 2005 & 2006. Thanks Brian. RCSCC has done wonderful work. Look up Hobbema Marching Band. It's about engaging the community, marching, playing music, feeling proud. Thanks to all that gave us these opportunties in the past. My start in drum corps was because Local 626 of the Scarborough Professional Firefighters Association cared about our youth. My index shows the Hobemma Community Cadets being a drum & bugle corps from 2006-2010. I also have the Hobemma Girls being active through 1975. You can imagine that information is not readily available on corps from western Canada. I do have such Alberta corps as: Alberta Boys Alberta Girls Alberta Girls 'B' Allegiance Allegiance Elite Calgary Cavaliers Calgary Cavalier Cadets Canadian Royalaires Centurions Edmonton Ambassadors Fusion Hobemma Hobemma Girls Impact Klondike Red & White-Aires Sabres Strutters 1st Canadian Cavaliers 1st Canadian Regiment And I know the Cranbrook Girls (British Columbia) have been active each year of the DCI era (and prior). Geoff
You haven't marched a parade until you marched a Santa Claus parade in Ontario in the middle of December.
