Compensating Euphonium advice

Recommended Posts

My son is going off to college as a Music Ed. major focusing on euphonium and I am shopping for a compensating euphonium. I keep coming back to the Jupiter XO 1270. They are significantly cheaper. Is there any reason why I shouldn't purchase this horn? Also if someone knows of a used professional model that is in good shape I would be interested

Thank you

Honestly, he should either wait until he gets to the school to purchase a horn, or at the very least consult with whoever private lessons professor is at the school first. He/she will have advice and better resources than you or your son will at this point.

When I was in college for euph, my professor started me on a King non-compensating (lacquer) and when he felt I was ready, moved me to a Yamaha compensating (silver) which I absolutely loved playing on, so that's what I would reccommend for a compensating horn for now, but I would definitely let his professor give him a horn first to start with.
