Tupac
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMvJ5WU3qYQ After reading about the crowd reaction when BD beat Crown and the fact that some folks were upset about the booing, I never noticed how many boos there were in this old piece. If you go to around the 8 minute mark of this 1975 score announcements and listen to the crowd reaction to the scores, there were quite a few boos, mosty when an east coast corps didn't place higher. cf144
A lot of booing during score announcements at DCI Midwest 1981 with a very young Rondo, Jim Peck and Carmine Appice in the booth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffRTi3HfQ3E
JimF-LowBari
Maybe it was Muchachos fans in 1975.......
BigW
Read somewhere here that a lot of the booing, esp. at Cavies was supposedly because the Cavies had turned in the Muchachos. Lot of angry folks who considered the Muchachos as the Great White Hope from the East....

The booing was because the '75 27th Lancers were a GE powerhouse, with "perfect" 10's in both GE M & M and GE Brass that night. The crowd simply wanted a MUCH higher score for them.
Tupac
They were booing Garfield"s placement too. I completely forgot about the Cavies turning in Hawthorne.

The crowd simply wanted a MUCH higher score for them. A third place corps everywhere but percussion. I think people find it easier to self-judge marching and brass than drums, so they have trouble figuring out a 3rd in M&M, a 4th in brass, and 9th in drums.
JimF-LowBari
*sigh* Have the 1975 DVD (only Legacy I own) and wish retreat was on the disk....

They had no choice but to hand out more, to Madison and SCV.

When you give a perfect score to a team that's not the last team and you have not left room for anyone coming on after them, you're playing with more than just fire, Fran. You're playing with hand grenades with the pins out and open canisters of radioactive waste as a judge in what you imply at that point of the night. And... folks will talk about for decades to come for that very reason... like this thread.
