A THOUGHT

Recommended Posts

Not a merger but more akin to property management services common in the real estate business.

DCI's approach to conducting the season's organizational issues far exceed DCA abilities.

Should DCI offer DCA their business services?

Only if requested by DCA, imo. Otherwise, a collaboration already occurs between DCA and DCI on occasion.

Those that are familiar with the formation of DCI are aware that when several Junior Corps were thinking of combining together and forming their own circuit, they approached DCA Board of Directors ( and Jim Costello, the then DCA Executive Director ) in 1971 to request advice on how to go about creating their new circuit. DCA ( formed in 1965 ) were more than willing to assist them with that consultive business advice service, so DCA officials met with these Jr. Corps Reps, gave their advice, recommendations, and these grateful Junior Corps reps then later incorporated many of those ideas in their infrastructure, by laws, and institutional formation of their new circuit, that they later named "Drum Corps International " ( DCI ), in 1972.

Not sure what is meant by "property management" or "organizational issues".

Thought the FN work was pretty much under DCI or at least whoever does the work for DCI started doig it for DCA few years back. Too bad that workload dropped off with the copyright mess.....

DCA could definitely use some help with marketing, but the big key is that DCI has a paid full time staff in the office, DCA doesn't. Both are similar in that money made is earmarked to get back out to corps after expenses, but DCI brings in a lot more. If you're a show host, you buy the show package from DCi, which covers fees for admin, corps etc. DCA you pay for judges and admin, then negotiate with each corps one on one.

I do expect with some administrative change in DCA coming, you may see some change in how the business runs. I doubt it'll turn out to be DCI junior, but there may be more overlapping similarities
