A THOUGHT

Recommended Posts

Because DCA's membership is primarily east coast. They have token midwest representation (MN Brass Inc, Kilties, Governaires), and used to have west coast (Renegades (RIP)),but these corps always need to come to the east coast for labor day weekend championships. Yes, I know MN Brass Inc has won DCA, but how many times did the make the trek before they won?

So really, the root of the problem is $$$.

MBI, Chops, Kilties, Govies, Cincy make up MW and 25% of DCA corps,...............and 4 of the 7 Class A corps last year,......

OK - so extending this logically DCA championships should be held in the midwest 25% of the time.

.... true... and following along the same logic, if this was the standard, DCI would have DCI Championships on the West Coast every 4 years too.

So.. we seem to be in agreement here that A) DCI could offer their services ( " services " not defined however by the OP ) to DCA if they wanted to and B) its DCA's decision however as to whether or not they believe those services would be in their best interests. Is that the general consensus here ?

I'm also struck as to why this thread was not posted on the DCA side of this forum, as it could be a good discussion for the DCA fans to discuss there too, imo.

sure. Find a city that will put in a bid. Then, be sure you have enough fans in that region that will attend to replace the ones from the East that will not/can not travel. You see, DCA basically gets Rochester for free, so even if attendance is down, the corps still make money. If you move it to a place where the costs go up, and attendance doesn't grow to help offset the costs, then the corps lose money

Good question.... where would a fan base for $$$$$ tickets be anymore? Hate to say it but........

And the fan base, if there is one, is apparently not in Rochester either.

I think the loss of the corps in the NY area has hurt a lot.

If you look back at DCA Champs in 2000, you see Syracuse, Empire, Rochester and Kingston from NY State all in finals, and the Skyliners were still from NY. In 2015 there were only the White Sabers from NY State and the Sunrisers from LI.

The DCA Open class activity has spread itself out over a greater geographic area, which is great in the larger sense, but maybe not-so-great for champs weekend. In 2015 there were the 2 corps from NY, 2 from PA, 2 from NJ, 1 from MN, 1 from England, 1 GA and 1 CT. In 2000 there were 5 from NY, 2 from NJ, 1 from PA, 1 from MN and 1 from CT.

Does anyone have attendance records for the last ten years? or five even?

I'm curious to see what DCA had each year from year to year.

And what they supplemented with the fan networks broadcast purchases.
