2016 DCA Shows

Recommended Posts

I get more enjoyment from a show if I familiarize myself with the music. Some play stuff that takes getting used to.

This I agree with. For instance, I had missed several years of early 2000s drum corps, so when SCV announced they were playing Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra in 2010, I hadn't heard Phantom Regiment's use of that piece almost ten years earlier. Several commenters on these forums grumbled that the selection was too obscure and difficult for the audience, which led me to seek it out on Youtube before seeing SCV play it.

Oh no... Blue Devils, Bluecoats, Blue Stars, Cavaliers, SCV haven't posted show announcements... they must be folding :-(

edit - serious: out of all the stuff corps admins need to worry about, off-season show announcements are low priority.

Saying "Corps X doesn't have their act together because they haven't announced their show" is like saying "Movie theater X doesn't have their act together because they don't have a poster up for next summer's big release."

Part of me thinks this whole "hype" idea is so when the corps announce their shows people might buy tickets quicker, as they have less time to do so. Not sure if that makes any sense.

Who are these groups of which you speak? Must be from some circuit unrelated to DCA. :)

True enough. My intent was just give a poke to get the holdouts to update. I get more enjoyment from a show if I familiarize myself with the music. Some play stuff that takes getting used to.

holdouts are going to do what they want to do regardless of people on DCP's wishes

Per Dan's new post, Atlanta CV's full show title is "RHYTHMOS: Life In Motion", and their repertoire is:

--Artistry In Rhythm (Stan Kenton)
--Libertango (Astor Piazzolla)
--Gabriel's Oboe from The Mission (Ennio Morricone)
--Finding and Believing (Pat Metheny)
--joyRIDE (Michael Markowski)

Interesting that two DCA corps are playing the same Morricone piece this year.

Ah! I remember playing joyRIDE two years ago in concert band, a combination of "Ode to Joy" and "Short Ride in a Fast Machine." It would be very interesting to hear it being played by a drum corps!
