From 1974 to 1977 the city of North Tonawanda, NY and The Royal Coachmen Drum and Bugle Corps sponsored the NT Open.....Name the Open Class winners for each year.

In 1976, this corps played a song that was not the style of music that they had been known for and "shocked" their fans with this piece. Who was the corps and what was the name of the piece?

The Only American Corps to win the Canadian Nationals?

Since 1962, only 3 American corps participated in The Canadian Nationals, who were they?

I wanted to wait to see if anybody else would chime in Keith, but I believe the answer you are looking for here might be when Santa Clara played the big band jazz chart, Dark Orchid.

At least five American corps have participated in the Canadian Nationals:

General Butler Vagabonds (1997)

Spectrum (1998)

Rochester Patriots (1999, 2000)

Lake Erie Regiment (1999, 2000, 2001)

Imperial Guardsmen (1999)

Was there an open class for 1976? I don't think there was. There were too many other contests that same day that took most of the major open corps:

Santa Clara, Phantom, Oakland Crusaders, Freelancers and Royal Crusaders were all in Washington, PA.

Blue Devils, Madison, 27th Lancers, Bridgemen, Garfield, Optimists, Troopers, Muchachos, Boston Crusaders, North Star and Kilts were all at the CYO Nationals. I suspect the '76 NT Open was just a Class 'A' show.

The 1975 scores were:

Prelims

Freelancers--77.35

Argonne--77.3

Optimists--75.5

Seattle Imperials--71.55

Marksmen--70.3

Colt .45--68.45

Grenadiers--71.25

I do remember Marquis won Open class in 1976 but after that I couldn't tell you who else was there. Maybe Fire-ettes were there
