A First for DCA?

Recommended Posts

With recent press releases from two corps in Pennsylvania who supposedly compete AGAINST each other in DCA, one name appears as holding the same position in both corps.

While there have always been times when instructors (now known as faculty) simultaneously taught corps who competed against each other, this may be the first time that a major administrator of a corps simultaneously directs two competitors.(These websites are current as of yesterday.) A first for DCA???

http://readingbuccaneers.org/public_html/about-us.html (note the right column)

http://yea.org/programs/cadets/cadets/staff (explicated further in an email sent to donors of their DCA and other corps, repeated on corps' website.)

What's an Ensemble Coordinator?

he who coordinates all groups of performers under that same overall brand or sponsor; for example, the competiting winter guard, the competiting winter percussion, the drum corps (whether DCA, Alumni, DCI, parade corps) and special performance groups (sports drum lines, catering events for which members are provided for musical or guard performance, etc.) He handles the scheduling, the attendance, the horaria (order of the day for you ex-military types,) the arrangements of housing/transportation/practice sites; what instructors will be where and when, etc., etc.

Just about everything but fundraising, BoD matters, and so forth.

Both Reading and Allentown have several units within their brand.

That may be what it means at YEA/Cadets, but at Reading it usually means "he who runs the corps' ensemble rehearsals". I'd just figured his day job was at YEA, and he would be doing Bucs on weekends. Rich is one of the best reheardsal coordinators i've ever worked with/under.

Looking carefully,

1: The individual does work for YEA!, but not with their DCA operation.

2: I'm certain if either party had an issue they would have spoken up.

3: In this day and age, if someone wants more hard, honest work on their plate and wants to step up and do it, and they're good at it- hey! Do it! I'm not averse to anyone trying to put more jingle in their jeans and food on their table in a legit way. :satisfied:

I just get a slight whiff of a bit of sensationalism here is all. Kind of like when everyone freaked out recently about the fact the Landowner of the Orange County Choppers property is selling their property and the article headlines led to people thinking OCC was going out of business. :satisfied:
